LET'S RESIN Silicone Putty, 1LB/40A Mold Making Kit

EDIT: !! I AM CHANGING MY ORIGINAL REVIEW!! After doing research on different types of silicone base and catalyst, I found a study of the effects of nitrile, vinyl, and latex gloves. To summarize, this putty does not interact well with nitrile gloves. I used it bare handed and found that it would set up as expected and is genuinely a good product especially for the cost. I apologize for my original review and I guarantee I will be using this product again in the future. I recommend just using your bare hands to mix this putty due to there also being no residue left on your hands after mixing. Again, I am sorry and I hope this is helpful! Packaging says that the working time is 3mins and the curing time is 15-20mins. However, this putty almost never sets up or cures, even with prolonged vigorous mixing. When it does finally harden in the slightest, the putty easily falls apart. Please stay away from this product and look elsewhere.

This dries slow as expected being zero shrink silicone. It dries in about 8 hours. I have other putty that dries in 30 minutes, but the end product gets pretty hard and not really flexible. Let's Resin may be slower but it gives far better results. Flexible, strong, and most importantly, it doesn't get sticky after sitting for a month or two after molding. I have found it easy to use and clean up. I think this product is a beter value than most for the money as I tend to need les to get the same results.

I use silicone putty to recreate small model parts for kitbashing. Once the mold is set you can press Greenstuff or any modeling compound into it (or make a 2 part mold) and get a passable copy for your kit bashed creations. Like any skill it takes some time, but it does work. I've used a few different brands of putty and the Let's Resin putty was my favorite to use.

It's great stuff! If used wisely you can make quite a few molds for small items. One pound is plenty enough for jewelrymakers and most hobbyists. It's easy to mix, easy to shape, and easy to mash onto items to mold them. It's a very forgiving material that allows mold-making to be a casual hobby. It doesn't stick to skin very much, and it's easy to scrape and clean up even with bare hands. After mixing the putty, you get about 3 minutes of normal working time and then maybe 5-8 minutes to fix mistakes. You can also use a nonstick material like burnished wood to flatten areas and fix edges when necessary. Today is my first day using it and I've made 5 molds throughout the day. I found that an exacto or scalpel knife blade is outstanding for trimming the excess material from these molds. Use your thumb to push/roll the excess away from the mold cavity, then slice it off. This thin, folded rubber won't resist your blade at all so you can make amazingly precise cuts. In my photo I showed how many grams it took to make each mold. (I found that a good rule of thumb is to make the backing have 2-3x as much mass as the initial layer. Use pinches to blend the layers into one solid mass.) Since taking the photo, I've filled every mold with more of the silvery epoxy. Can't wait to see the results! The first two molds, I poured epoxy into them within 20 minutes of demolding the original items. Through time, I will research this material more and try to answer the following: 1. How much heat can it take? 2. How does it work with mold release spray? Overall, it's super fun and well worth trying! UPDATE: A few days later, I have an answer for the 2nd question. Mold release spray hardly seems to make any difference. But I also have some advice. You should wash and dry these molds before using them for the first time. If you don't, the oils from the silicone putty might get into your epoxy. This is especially noticeable for small or thin items. The epoxy items cast in these molds were flexible like a gummy. After a few days they did fully harden, but it was a bit nerve-wracking to wiggle them out of the mold without bending or breaking them. I imagine this leftover silicone oil is also why people have problems with UV Resin. So, wash the molds!

Update: I wanted to point out one issue: compared to another silicone putty brand I have used, this putty sets up quite a bit slower (maybe 30 minutes), and though it is initially quite soft and pliable, over time, it becomes quite hard. That may be fine for your use; I just thought I’d mention it. This silicone worked great for me. Makes a firm--but flexible--mold. or whatever. (I haven't tried repeat castings, so I can't say how long-lasting it is.) I used it to make some texture stamps for a restoration project on a piece of pottery. It made nice, firm impressions that were very effective in transferring texture to the repaired parts of the pottery. I have also used this to modify earbuds so that they fit more snugly in my ears. the silicone sticks to itself, so whatever you make with it can be modified by subsequent applications. It is also very reasonably priced! A great value.

When they say flexible, expect extremely soft flexibility. If you're trying to make something thicker, it'll flatten itself out, spread itself out, intake up to 2 hours to fully cure. To test it, I rolled it into a small ball. However, it would NOT roll into a ball, it was just too soft. I can role Play-Doh into a ball simply. This is like thick glob. I tried everything, but it would not keep its shape. I finally set it on the counter, watched it flatten itself against the countertop, and over an hour later it finally fully dried. I had a half flat, half completely-misshapen ball. This "test" was smaller than a quarter to begin with. After it finally settled, funky shaped, and fully dried, it was much larger than a quarter. Just as bad, it leaves your hands covered in grease. So disappointing. But, if you don't care about any of that, it does dry hard. I'm returning it.

Works as advertised nice product compared to what I have used in the past

I first tried mixing up some and waited 20 minutes and it was still not remotely cured. I waited 3 hours and still not cured at all so I disposed of the mix and tried a second attempt. Only this time I put some of part A into one baggie and an equal amount of part B into a SEPERATE baggie. I ran a cup of hot water through my keurig coffee maker without a coffee pod, just hot water no coffee, and put the sealed baggies of part A and B into the cup of hot water for about 90 seconds. I quickly removed the warm putty from their baggies and blended together until uniform in color, I didn't over mix, just until uniform in color, no streaks. This resulted in a well cured mold within 20-30 minutes. It works but parts should be warmed before mixing. Not sure if putting in microwave would work or somehow affect the reaction.

Wow I've been trying all kinds of products but this actually works. It's a putty so you can form it around the detailed bits you are moulding. It is a putty so it's not liquid like others and the model doesn't sink into the silicone. I love it and will definitely buy again.

I purchased 3 products (see video) thru Amazon, "Lets Resin Silicone Putty" (incl. 2 jars, each 0.5Lbs or 227g), "Wycoon Epoxy Resin" (incl. 2-bottles, 8 fl oz or 237g each, crystal clear resin & hardner), and "Lets Resin Chrome Markers" (incl. 3 high gloss markers, gold, silver, copper). All products arrived on-time or ahead of schedule. I used these product to repair the raised chrome lettering on the side of my boat. I used the silicone putty to make moulds of 2 undamaged letters found on another part of the boat. I poured a batch of the epoxy resin into the silicone moulds to cast the new letters. Finally, I chromed the new letters with the silver chrome marker. All 3 products performed as advertised, and I was more than happy with the results of each. The chrome markers were amazing, producing a highly reflective surface that rivalled the appearance of the original chrome lettering, as demonstrated in the attached video.

a good price for a good product. Not as flexible as some, but this is the only two part putty I have come across which allows a mend to be made with another small mixing of the putty to seal a split, and blends right in.

A comparación de las otras masillas de silicón, creo que esta marca ofrece más producto por menos dinero,tarda un poquito más de tiempo en catalizar la mezcla lo que te da tiempo de lograr un molde que logre todos los detalles de la pieza, el único incoveniente es que, una vez curado el silicón es muy muy frágil, si le vas a sacar molde a figuras con detalles, extremidades etc lo más probable es que solo puedas usar el molde una vez, otra cosa, si por algún motivo dejaste algún espacio sin cubrir y quieres aplicar otra capa de silicon ya una vez curado, no va pegar, tienes que hacer el molde en un solo intento y de preferencia solo usando una misma bolita de Silicone putty, entonces hay que calcular bien el material, para que salga a la primera. Aún así considero que es un buen producto para hacer moldes que no serán de uso rudo y de preferencia figuras básicas, lo volvería a comprar sobre todo para lograr impresiones o sellos de texturas, usos de ese tipo, sobre todo de emergencia para no recurrir al silicón líquido.
