RockShox cares about us
I am so glad that one manufacturer makes a 26 inch air fork with lockout and damping control for rim brakes. And very attractively priced. This fork has kept my old Rockhopper on the trail and performing better than it did with its original coil spring fork. When my son got old enough, we bought him a frame (he's taller than I am) and he built himself a bike, mostly from my parts bin and one of these Recon forks (the second one I've bought).

A great replacement fork
I installed this on my son's 2004 S-Works Epic to replace the OG fork and the swap couldn't have been easier. The only trouble I had was with adjusting the rebound speed. The adjuster seemed to be stuck, and the built-in adjuster tool was slipping. I had to remove it entirely and use a regular Allen key. No big deal, but something to be aware of. Once the adjuster was freed, it worked just fine with the OG adjuster tool. The movement of this fork is as smooth as butter, on both the up travel and down. Air pressure adjustment is conveniently placed on the top of the shock tube, which is an upgrade over the fork which came on the bike. The original disc brake caliper bolted right up, no brackets, shims, or spacers needed.

Solid retrofit for an old bike
I have a couple 26" hard-tails that were reasonably high end in their day, XT / XTR. The old forks however were just not working well. I got the air spring version of these. While these forks are not as plush as what you'd find on a nice high end bike today they work well, probably better than the more expensive original when they were new. Stanchions are noticeably more beefy. Lock control is smooth, however the rebound control feels flimsy when adjusting and has limited settings. I wish Manitou had a fork with V brake mounts because I'd have tried one of each, but we're happy with the two Rock Shox that we put on our old bikes.

Great Economy Upgrade Fork
I am an older rider who still tackles some technical single-track. I recently purchased a good used hardtail 26-er MTB but the stock fork was the SR single coil-spring unit with no damping - the crudest of suspension. This new Rockshox unit with air spring & adjustable rebound is SO much better for front-end control through roots & rocks and it was 0.8 pounds lighter than the SR, too! Very Pleased!

Great entry fork! 100mm travel is possible but...
I bought this fork to bring new life to my vintage GT FS Timberline bike. So far, I love it, converting the threaded head end to threatless was simple (once I had the right tools) and installing the fork was easy. The only thing... it has a 20mm spacer in it! That's right, you will have to disassemble this fork entirely to remove the spacer if you want the full 100mm travel. It comes as 80mm out of the box. For that I have given it 4 stars, instead of 5. It is not a simple process, and if you are not confident removing the spacer yourself, you may need to bring it to a bike shop. Other than this, I've ridden it several times now and it is night vs day over the older elastomer fork, the ride is smooth for the light mountain trail riding I do. With the new headset, it was slightly heavier than the old fork, but not by much. Definitely a worthwhile investment to upgrade any older bike.

bang for the buck
this fork is an amazing upgrade for an older bike---I paired it up with some race face handlebars (32") and stem and the cockpit is very agile and light ----the fork accommodated my ancient XTR rim brakes saving me hundreds of dollars----the brakes are still amazing 18 years later * did come with a star nut! *i weigh about 198 so I upped the psi to about 200 *rebound knob is a bit tight ---not a lot of options *with the rider sag, you only get about 3 inches of travel---but great for XC

my bike has a new lease on life
I bought this to replace my 20+ year old Manitau Skareb 80mm and I wish I'd done this a few years ago when I started riding again. The Skareb was supposed to have a lockout but it didn't work, and me being a clydesdale just sitting on my bike used pretty much all of it's small 80mm of travel. And being a 26" with rib brakes fork replacements are few and far between. So after watching a couple of YT vids I ordered one and installed it. What really surprised me was the weight. I was expecting a heavier fork but it's weight is very comparable to the Skareb which was a light weight XC fork. The second I saddled up I was delighted at how much travel I had available to me, and having the lockout for streets and paved park trails is great. My bike is old, but I've maintained it very well and a couple of years I upgraded the front derailleur, shifters and put all new cabling on it. But the fork situation was making the bike a less than fun experience. It's almost like a new bike now and I expect I'll be riding it for several more years. As far as installing...it's like any other fork. You'll need to cut the steer tube to length with a pipe cutter or hack saw and file the jagged edges smooth.

Perfect for older 90’s MTB’s
This is a great fork. The suspension is perfect-rebound, compression, etc. it also has lockout. Can be used with cantilevers, V-brakes, or disc brakes. I’m glad Rockshox still makes a good quality suspension fork for older bikes with 26 inch wheels.
