Is it safe for the pump?

our birdbath is shallow, so in hot weather we must refill it every day or every other day. do you add this product every day?

I add one cap full once a week unless the water has to be replaced sooner-evaporation, spillage, or dilution by heavy rain. Then I add a cap full each time. I would experiment with less product(1/2 cap full) with each refill or maybe one cap full every 2nd or 3rd day and see what works. Actually, with daily changes you may not need the product at all.

Does this also work on keeping fountains with a pump free of algae?

While the Microbe-Lift Birdbath Clear should help keep the water clear, it is not an algaecide. ML Birdbath Clear is for birdbaths. For Fountains with pump, we have Microbe-Lift/Small (and Large) Fountain Clear. For algae, we have Microbe-Lift/AlgAway 5.4. In a Birdbath it would only require a drop of the algaecide once weekly if there is algae growing. Otherwise, you can use Microbe-Lift/Concentrated Barley Straw Extract as a preventative product. It will not interfere with the use of Fountain Clear.

Do I need to empty out the dirty water before I can use this?

Works Great!

It's easy to use really. I keep a solution made up in my garage using an old milk jug. I use it in conjunction with a copper disk and I've had no issues so far. Don't get me wrong, I still have to clean the birdbath. Mostly because they continue to use the restroom in the same place as their communal drinking area. I'm thankful that it's safe for my feathered friends and it does keep the water clearer overall so I think the quality of the product is just find.

Works

This solution seems to be working. It’s keeping the water clean better than a previous brand I used. I mix up a gallon at a time so it’s always ready. Now if I could only get the birds to quit using it as a bathroom, it’d be perfect. I’d also love a bigger bottle.

Birdbath is cleaner

This is a great product. With just the small recommended amount , my birdbath stays cleaner and the mosquitoes seem to not like it. No more wiggling larvae in the water! The birds don't notice any difference and drink the water and take their baths.

Works well and safe for birds

I live in the desert southwest. Rain (and hence, water puddles) are few and far between. My birdbath is a very popular spot and I have visitors constantly throughout the day. has not slowed algal growth in our birdbath

We have a small (about 2-gallon) bird bath that is in partial shade most of the day. the water will turn deep green after less than a week of cleaning and changing out the water. Adding this product did not seem to slow down the problem much.

Waste of money

For the first time ever, I wish I could rate a product with 0 stars. My birdbath has gotten worse after using this.I have now used this per instructions for 4 days and my birdbath looks worse than it ever has. I cleaned and filled birdbath with clean water put in this product and over next couple of days the water became cloudy and the algae seemed to accelerate. This is a complete waste of money.
