The Substance: Albert Hofmann's LSD

so I choose to give this documentary a 5 star was because I thought it was pretty cool , so yeah on many levels I am bound by my own biases but regardless of this or that , I believe its important that people don't do drugs , but I believe that people have to accurate information about what they are putting into their bodies if they do decide to go that route . Its funny that these substances , at one point in time played a critical part in the counter culture revolution in the 1960's as well as the anti-war movement , as well as many other parts of the human culture , but I can only hope that someday these things can be controlled and regulated in a mature way that respects human life and human freedom . I hope that someday in the far future LSD and other psychedelics can be integrated into American Medical Culture . thank you Albert Hoffman

Is there any singular substance that has influenced Western culture more than LSD? Sadly, the story of LSD has thus far been a tragic one, but with new research at some of the leading medical universities in the USA, perhaps this phenomenal gift will make a resurgence and become readily available once again - it is too beneficial for just the most ill. This DVD covers the entire history of LSD, including original footage of government and psychological experiments with the substance. If you are interested in learning more about LSD, this DVD would be a good place to start.

OMG, Has no one noticed the narration track of this DVD is missing? Do people think that 80% of this movie is actually supposed to be background music? I've seen the real production & THIS IS NOT IT. The real movie is fantastic..but this is the real movie LESS the script! You can only hear interviews!!!! That was never the movie!!!

Fantastic documentary that shows what true 60s lsd is all about. A substance that is hard to come by these days as the recipe has changed over time greatly. Everyone should watch this!

Si parte dagli estratti di alcune interviste fatte ad Hoffmann, il chimico che accidentalmente sintetizzò l'Lsd, per passare alla storia dell'utilizzo della sostanza a fini psichiatrici, ai test militari condotti con essa, all'esplosione nel mondo hippy e alla progressiva penalizzazione del consumo. Il tutto raccontato e spiegato con dovizia di particolari, immagini autentiche delle sperimentazioni cliniche e dei test, ragioni degli entusiasti e dei detrattori, contestualizzazione nella cultura e nella società in cui è nato e si è sviluppato il consumo, interviste a scienziati, chimici, psichiatri, consumatori. L'alchimia finale rende questo dvd veramente molto interessante proprio perché rende uno spaccato completo ed oggettivo del "fenomeno" dell'Lsd

Albert Hofmann may be better known for his famous bikeride than for his deep and profound spiritual and philosophical insights. Here we get an impression of him close to his 100th birthday and what a 'wise old man' in the truest sense. "A chemist who is not also a mystic is not a real chemist".But this intriguing movie also shows highly interesting historic clips. Including a most hillarious scene with gigling soldiers unable to follow orders under the influence of LSD.Amongst the interviewed Stan Grof stands out with thoughtful comments and strong presence. And we even get some old clips from his days in Prague and at Spring Grove.Plus the usual - and inescapable - suspects like Ken Kesey and Leary. Some rare and trippy footage and wise words from Caroline 'Mountain Girl' Garcia. Both Kesey and Leary ofc giving the likes of Nixon and Reagan (the then governor of California) the perfect excuse for banning the substance.Immense amount of information packed into the 90 mins. Watching it quite like a flashabck in itslef. Also have to mention the brilliant soundtrack by Marcel Vaid and some poignant clips with Hendrix and Grateful Dead.Absolutely essential for heads old and new and everybody interested in sober views on the potentialities of mindexpanding 'drugs'.

A beautifully put together film about Acid which covers essential areas for historians, interested bystanders, old heads and anyone thinking it sounds so far-out it may be worth a try !Anyone with no direct knowledge of the substance, who consider themselves to be a reasonably intelligent and inquisitive person, could not fail to have their interest aroused by the poignant and insightful commentary by Dr Hofmann himself, by Stan Grof and the others as well.That LSD is only now re-emerging for serious evaluation is a completely insane. It was heralded as a wonder by many researchers back in the day, but unfortunately a substance with which its users see the world as it really is, with the gaping faults of the way things are, and general insanity of the world, it was always likely to be be banned.There was only a fleeting mention of the uses to Psychiatry, and I would have liked to have seen something mentioned about its successes with treating (pretty good too!) Autism in kids (Gary Fisher et al), I am sure parents of autistic children would be interested to have some details here !Dr Hofmanns wish was that at some stage, there would be centres where people could go and have a Psychedelic experience with professional guidance, lets hope that day is not too far away !Until then, it's still available and being used by many people, and I dont see anymore headlines about people flying out of windows and chromosome damage attributable to it ! All the crap from the 60's and 70's, was just that, lies.I think the best statistic is still that more people are KILLED because of alcohol in ONE DAY than were ever harmed by Acid in its whole history.Cut the hysteria, and lets get back to pragmatic thinking (and Dreaming)!And thank God for Dr Hofmann !!!
