how long will it run on 2 9 volt batteries?

That will depend very much on the use you make of it; we have used the same batteries for several weeks now, but the use is intermittent and for testing or commissioning only.

Can someone please give a detailed explanation of how to use and generate a signal with this device?

This is used to simulate either a 4-20ma or 0-10vDC signal in a test environment, selectable via on board switch. I have found that depending on the input resistance of your load using 9 volt batteries in series may not have enough capacity so I use a small 24vDC power supply to power the generator. Connect your generator power wires & appropriate output wires observing the correct polarity & you should be fine

I see there is a place on the pc board for an on off switch. can this be added?

Not sure. When power is applied to the terminals, the meter comes alive. Not sure if the printed circuit card pads will turn off the meter, as I do not see any jumper or other means that is completing the circuit. I am just disconnecting the power to turn the meter off.

When providing power to this product, what is the input voltage? does it accept a vdc voltage range?

The input voltage to this device is 24VDC, and have an analog output 0-10Vdc or 0-20mA. Works really good.
