Makita GD0603 1/4" Compact Die Grinder

Nice tool

This little gem replaced a Dremel I have been abusing for far too long. I use it to carve, sharpen and deburr all kinds of material. I have meaty paws so I can hold it like a giant pencil and do fairly detailed work with a good carbide burr inserted. The single speed is fine for my needs but maybe a variable speed would be nice. Actually, who cares.... this thing just chugs along. I find this a lot easier to grab and use than an air grinder. I have a smaller compressor so since I’ve got this thing plugged in, my air grinders are gathering a bit of dust. Easy decision to buy it and use it.

I love the smaller profile. It is easy to maneuver and powerful enough to get the job done.

The die grinder over all is great and it is worth it for the money, it gets the job done well and fast. Only reason I gave it 4/5 stars was because it only has a single speed and for the type of work I need it for I need a slower speed setting but great product over all and would highly recommend it.

This was advertised by Amazon as a USA-specification 1/4" die grinder. It is neither. It is clearly marked on the grinder and on its box as 220 volts (i.e. it runs at half speed in USA), and it has a metric 6mm collet that 1/4"-shank grinding burrs do NOT fit into. In other words, Amazon is selling items in USA that simply won't work in USA. When I first opened its box it was obvious to me that someone else had previously bought it, then presumably had also discovered that it was useless in USA and had returned it. Why is Amazon advertising and selling European-spec items in USA, and why are they selling previously sold and returned items as "New"? I shall never buy anything ever again from Amazon. I have already ordered a replacement US-spec grinder from Home Depot for not much more money than Amazon's price; don't waste your time and money buying from Amazon. The only reason I have given a 1-star rating as because Amazon won't allow the zero-star rating that they deserve when they do business this way.

I use this for wood carving and it's been great. It's smaller than the larger die-grinders so it's a lot more manueverable than those but still a long bodied tool. It does work fantastic for my application and it has plenty of power to really dig into hard woods. I've also used it on steel and aluminum for cutting and it does well there too. Don't expect the big machine power from this but it's certainly got enough grunt for my uses. I'm happy with it.

This Makita grinder is fantastic. Typically, online price is $125 but I found it on Amazon for $100 and change. I bought it for metal grinding, aluminum cylinder head porting, and part polishing. I bought a $25 fan speed controller so you don’t have to run it at max RPM all the time. It is very light and easy to hold. Doing 30 minutes of porting will not tire out your hands due to the tool weight. Very happy with the quality, smoothness while running, and value.

Primeiro é bom esclarecer que a GDO603 é muito mais forte que uma micro retífica. Apesar de ser muito leve, tem excelente ergonomia e trabalha muito bem. Evidentemente não tem a força de retificadeiras maiores, mas para trabalhos que requerem acabamento mais preciso esta é a máquina certa. Vibra muito menos que a minha Bosch que tem mais do dobro da potência, é muita menos barulhenta, não cansa e faz o mesmo trabalho num tempo um pouquinho maior. Excelente aquisição.
