Just Ok.
I bought this splitter because I have a 10 year old high def TV with only two HDMI ports. Previous to getting a new cable box I had a blu-ray player going into one port and a Kindle Fire Stick in the other. The new cable box had an HDMI out port so I wanted to take advantage of that. So I connected the cable box to one port (cable company does not recommend using a splitter on their box) and plugged the blu-ray player and Fire Stick into the splitter and the splitter into the other HDMI port. For the most part this works well. The only problem that occurs involves the Fire Stick which does does not have a true 'off' state. It can be put to sleep. If I want to watch the blu-ray, I turn it on before switching the TV's HDMI and the splitter seems to switch ok. If I want to watch the Fire Stick I wake it up first, then change the HDMI and that appears to work. However, if I want to switch from blu-ray player directly to Fire Stick, that gets a bit twitchy. The splitter does not always change. Fortunately it has a physical button to make the switch. In hindsight I should have bought a splitter with a remote control. But then I'm close to buying a new TV anyway and I'll make sure it has more than two HDMI pots.Update: I've had this splitter for just over a week and it is extremely twitchy regarding auto-switching. Sometimes it does, most of the time it does not. Yes it has a button, but I'm replacing this unit with one that costs $10 more that has a remote.

Could be 4 stars
I bought this to switch between my Charter HD cable box & my DVD player.Pros:1. No extra power cable needed2. Solves the problem of having only one HDMI input on the TVCons:1. Because the 4 ports are placed on 4 different sides, it makes it very cumbersome to position it on my TV stand. It would be far better to have all the ports on one side (the back) so that the cables are not going in every direction.2. Although it does automatically switch to my DVD player upon inserting a DVD, it does NOT automatically switch back to my cable box upon turning off the DVD player. I even tried to turn off the cable box, and then back on, to see if it would detect the signal. No luck. I have to walk over to the unit and manually press the switch button to switch from DVD back to cable box.I would have given it 4 stars if it were truly automatic for all devices. I kind of wish I paid a bit more to get one with a remote instead. But for the $10 I paid for this, I can't complain. It's still better than unplugging & plugging in the cables to the back of the TV every time I want to switch between cable and DVD player.4-6-2016 update: This splitter can no longer be relied upon. While watching movies through the DVD player, it will often blackout in the middle of the movie. It will come back on, but then it will blackout again every few minutes. Wasn't sure what the problem was. Thought maybe my DVD player was failing. But when we bypass this splitter, and plug the HDMI cable directly into the tv, everything works fine again. Downgrading rating to 2 stars. Probably should be one star, but it did work for about a year, and it was cheap. I do not recommend this product.

Easy to install
this is my second one of these HDMI splitters. The first was blown out due to short in my electricity at home. The HDMI port on my television that it was plugged into was rendered useless. The splitter works great otherwise. That is why I purchased this second one. The only thing that i can't get to work is the auto switching between devices. I still have to walk to the unit and push the button when I want to switch to from TV to Blueray player. Although tho other day, when the power went out, it had switched to blueray when the power came on. It is easy to connect and uses power from the components that are plugged into it (similar to some USB devices on a computer). Now with only active HDMI port on the TV, I may have to utilize the third port on the splitter, but I am not sure if my Amazon Fire Stick will work using the splitter. Another experiment to try.

Good little box and it works with the PS4!
So far so good... PS4 compatible too! Basically I have a HDTV with 2 HDMI ports and I needed 4 for the PS4/PS3/Xbox360/Cable box.....So it's not a good idea to plug and switch cables every time and I ended up purchasing this little gizmo. What's really nice is it doesn't require a power plug (score) and using my Sony HDTV set... it still uses the HDMI link so I can power up and power down the tv...and use my TV remote as a PS3/PS4 controller...if none of that makes sense, well.. basically it works as advertised as far as compatibility. Only downside is occasionally when I switch from the ps4 to the ps3... it doesn't switch automatically.. which I hoped it would buuuuuuuuuuuuuut all you have to do is push the little select button and you're good so.. small price to pay and I don't see any quality of image loss.Good product!

Almost perfect.
By and large, this switch works the way it's supposed to; it receives the inputs and switches between sources automatically as things turn on and off. It does that without external power or a remote. That's great.Unless you have an always-on device attached (such as a Firestick or Apple TV)--in which case once it gets on that input it will not switch off of it. Even if something "higher" in the order switches on later. Most of these devices eventually go to sleep--at which time the switch works again--but that takes time and doesn't help if you want to switch off that input now. In which case, you've got to go manually cycle the sources--which can be a problem if you've tucked this behind the TV with the rest of the cords.
