Works just like you've seen on YouTube
Works when you have space to swing a hammer at it; when you do, it works it's magic. If you've seen the videos of taking off differential covers & oil pans, it's also good on valve covers (depending on the vehicle you're working on and space allowed Make sure to buy the extra blade, as they're a consumable item on the tool. Blade replacement is easy: 2 Allen screws. The blade is thicker than a box cutter, and about equal durability as a paint scraper. The handle is also adjustable, so you can get the tool into the perfect angle. Double check the locking nut before using it.

Another Great tool from Lisle
I learned about this tool in a Hyundai factory service manual. All my life I've been using various methods to separate pans.. it always sucked, never any fun, sometimes required hammering/bending of pan edges to re-straighten them before reinstallation. Sometimes required filing down gouges in aluminum castings. With this tool, all that changes. It's one of those tools were you use it and say where has this thing been all my life. After using it once it's now my go-to anytime I have to remove a pan of any type. It just works very very well. Spent more for the Lisle version of this tool.. as always, don't regret doing it. I've come to learn that if Lyle makes a tool I'm looking for, I'd rather spend a bit extra for the Lisle. I'm no Snap-On or Mac guy, but I've definitely become a Lisle guy. Part of this tool is a blade. As with any blade you don't want it to be low quality. The blade also has an attachment that has to withstand hammering Force.. again you don't want questionable quality here either. No surprise, the Lyle version of this tool shines in both respects. I'm not paid by Lyle, just trying to save other some headache that comes with many cheaper imitations. Whenever you can afford it, by the Lisle version- your knuckles will thank you.

Required for 90s Toyota oil pan gasket
Works great for separating old RTV gaskets on 90s Toyota 5SFE engine oil pan. This is a required tool when replacing the oil pan gasket.

Lifesaver
Lisle is the best gasket separator hands down. I had a siezed oil pan drain bolt. I had to drop the whole pan and very carefully grind out the old bolt to replace it with a new one. Without this gasket separator, I never would have been able to get the pan separated from the engine block.

The blade needs to be more sharp
I just used this tool today to replace the old FIPG of my Lexus ES330 oil pan. This tool is sturdy and well-made. It did the job in separate the initial old gasket around the oil drain plug. However, its blade, especially the side one, needs to be sharper to help in moving it around the gap because the area surrounding the oil pan is tight that a hammer can not really perform the full range of motion. Therefore, I had to use a small flat-head screwdriver for the rest of my job, thankfully, I succeeded without damaging my oil pan. Furthermore, its thickness should be reduced a bit to help with job. Overall, it is a good tool to protect the oil pan from being deformed.

Quality stands out compared to the cheaper ones
What difference between this and the ones for less money. This Lisle comes in professional packaging all put together. I bought this one and the others sold at half the price. The blade edge is almost sharp and starts off thin, unlike the cheap one I bought. I did have to take the blade off and smooth out the edge and sharpen so as not to scratch the aluminum transmission and aluminum pan, I was trying to remove. Once perfect, I super glued the blade in place and had at it. It worked perfect. What a great invention. I am 100% happy… 😊

After dealing with a particularly stuck oil pan I looked for something that could work better than the usual go too’s. I came across this and decided to try it. After a few uses I really like it and it has saved me some headaches. The blade has held up pretty well and so far I have used it to separate valve covers, engine and transmission oil pans, and a timing cover. It taps in pretty quickly and is easy enough to tap down the gasket until you can pry the pieces apart and it hasn’t marred a surface yet. I can see it lasting a long time as long as you don’t use it to try and pry the pieces apart after you have tapped it in.

This is one of those devices that you'll be thankful for when you need it. I used this for separating the transmission pan and valve cover pan with ease. Actually this device went through like butter with minimal hammering. The only negative is the price, this is so expensive, but, what can you do. Great products, just pricey.
