Mother Goose

My parents bought me this book when I was born (the green book in the picture), and I didn’t think that I would be able to find this same book for my baby, but I did! Mine is the 7th publication of the book, and there’s a big difference between my publication and my baby’s book (the purple one in the photo). In my book, there are nursery rhymes without pictures intermingled with nursery rhymes with illustrations. In the newer publication, all of the illustrated nursery rhymes are in the front of the book, and all of the nursery rhymes that didn’t have illustrations are at the back of the book. Get this book for your child. It’s an heirloom book to be passed down through the generations, if taken cared of properly.

I was disappointed, especially after reading so many great reviews, that so many of the rhymes are incomplete. "Little Boy Blue," "Jack and Jill," and many of the others only have one verse or stanza. We had been borrowing a different Mother Goose book from the library and wanted one of our own, but we'll be returning this one.

Classic collection of Mother Goose rhymes, with an illustration for each (enabling child to find favorites). Art by Gyo Fujikawa is interracial, so child learns from early age that the world is not populated solely by little white children in mob caps and knickers! This is my go-to baby shower present. Why Mother Goose? The short, playful rhymes introduce children to the fun and “music” of language.

This is the best book ever! As a child this was my go to book. The illustrations are darling. The Old Woman In A Shoe and The House That Jack Built were not only my favorites as a child, but are now our children's favorites. We wore out the spline of my original book (which is about 40 years old), so we have purchased a new book on Amazon to elevate the original version's wear.I cannot say enough good things about this illustrator! We have actually started a Gyo Fujikawa collection thanks to Amazon's availability. I have also gifted this book to new mom's at baby showers. Great gift for small children because the illustrations are so captivating.

I have been looking at many different Mother Goose books, trying to decide which to purchase for my children. Like some other reviewers I generally prefer not to have violence or harshness in nursery rhymes, for example, "she whipped them all soundly," or "he jumped into a bramble bush and scratched out both his eyes." But, I finally decided on this one, knowing it would have these verses in it. I LOVE this version of Mother Goose. The illustrations are beautiful; and the language is beautiful and rich. Almost every page has a beautiful full color illustration. Almost all the rhymes are sweet and wonderful, and you almost have to hunt for the couple that might have something objectionable. Yes, there is a page that shows knife-wielding bandits. But I love the collection because of the rich language, the numerous and beautiful illustrations, and because it is filled with fascinating mystery.

Just like the original as I remembered as little girl, now my Granddaughter is loving it. Except for the stories with child spankings. How times change. Pictures are beautiful.

Decades ago we read an earlier version of this book to our small children. They loved the rhymes and spent so many hours with Fujikawa's illustrations that the covers have gone with the endpapers and what's left has lost a lot of stitches too. Now our daughter is expecting her first baby and is eager to share this extraordinary collection of nursery rhymes with her own infant! There are many nursery rhyme collections, but surely this is the best.

My daughter had this book when she was a little girl, and she was delighted to receive a reprint of this beloved book. Excellent service..

I was duped. I paid for what I thought was the 130 page book. Only to receive a super tiny version with only 10 pages in it. I must have completely misread the writeup. Very disappointed. Was really looking forward to the 130 page version to use with my daughter as she is learning how to read.

The illustrations are beautiful and this book has SO many classic and not well known nursery rhymes
