This is one of my favorite stories and I am happy that it came out ...
This is one of my favorite stories and I am happy that it came out in a Young Readers Edition. I teach 5th Grade and the original movie is just on the edge of being able to watch it with my students. This book will definitely be on my "Read Aloud" list this year. It is so heartwarming, with a message that will stay with you for a long time. Trevor is such a likable, no nonsense kid, with a big heart. His plan seems so simple, yet, as adults, our learned skepticism fills us with doubt and our faith in others is minimal. This story becomes our inspiration to our Genius Hour projects, inspiring kids to make a difference in their world today. No idea is too small or too simple, it just takes a strong heart and mind to make it happen. I would recommend this book in any classroom. Our students are our future and this book is a powerful influence for students to make it happen.

Where it All Began
Catherine Ryan Hyde is one of my favorite authors. It’s easy to see why this inspiring story launched a movie, a foundation and a remarkable writing career.

This is a great book to teach students about empathy and compassion
This is a great book to teach students about empathy and compassion. They have all heard of "paying it forward" and now they have learned the story behind the concept. My third grade students will grow into adults, and it will be a better world if they understand how to care for one another. While this is the children's version of the story is really doesn't lose any of the power and impact behind Pay it Forward. The character development and the plot are well thought out. A great read aloud for all classrooms.

Let this be required reading for all children (& adults)!
Excellent children's edition! Our 9-yr old did a semester book project on this, loved working with the message of the book, presenting it to her class in a vibrant way, and then challenging them to apply in a small way the theme of "Pay it forward." Many books for kids insult their intelligence, wasting their potential on negative, superficial, non-stimulating non-ideas. It is so refreshing to find books such as this that inspire children to reach, to strive, to dream, to act positively and productively. Brilliant story and generous author to create this based on her own experience mentioned at the book's beginning.

Grandson gave it a thumbs up!
I purchased this book for my grandson as a summer reading for every end of a school year I purchase a book for summer reading and this is the book I purchased for him. He is 14 years old and this book was recommended for that age group. I asked him how he liked it and he said he read it twice and gave it a thumbs up. He also passed it to his sister who is 16 and she enjoyed it also. So I guess if you are a young teen or have someone in that age group its a good book!

"Pay It Forward" not just for young readers
I bought this book for my 11-year-old granddaughter, but wanted to read it before giving it to her. I found myself totally caught up in the story. Children AND adults need to hear more like this. It seems so much of what is broadcast and written focuses on the negative, the bad, the down side of life. The idea of doing something for another person—even a stranger—without expectation of "pay back" is refreshing—no, it's fundamental to a happy and fulfilled life. I am glad the author chose to have a different ending for this edition than her original version, which was made into a movie.

Good book
The book was good ,it taught kindness. Which I feel like is an important thing. Although the book was good, I felt I got the point of the book before it was finished. But overall, I really liked it.

Interesting but far too deep for 8 to 10 year olds.
I saw the film of this book A long time ago but can't remember it in detail only that the theme of course was the same. The book is much fuller and for me has a slow start so that I wasn't sure I was going to engage with it for awhile. I was taken aback to discover the book is stated to be suitable for the age range if 8 to 12 years. Whoever decided that I wonder? Both the sexual content and the style of the writing makes it more appropriate for older children I would think. The concept of paying it forward' is of course a wonderful idea and I only wish it was really true. The world could certainly do with it. It is written in an unusual style in that the characters appear to be writing a diary in a way by entering their thoughts and experiences. The young boy clearly is doing this, but other parts seem to have a narrator also. This does mean that the novel jumps about backwards and forwards from character to character which I found confusing and a tad frustrating throughout the book. The ending has a definite twist which in a way felt almost contrived but not to most reviewers. This is just my personal opinion and most reviewers have given the book five stars. I wouldn't read it again.

Overall a good read!
Still on chapter 24 and my twin tweens are loving it! They wish author spent more time on certain points of the story. The consensus is that the book went forward too fast. But then again, they haven't finished the whole thing yet!Overall a good read!

Puts forward a very nice message across- a message to be kind and spread happiness, a message to create change, a message which started off as a normal assignment but ended up shaping many lives..Cause one person CAN make a difference! If you're in need for some inspiration to spread kindness or if you just wanna read it in summer sitting by the beach- perfect book!
