Self Reflection
The Fool's Pilgrimsge / Stephen Hoeller Is written by a life- long scholar of Gnosticism and ancient wisdom- It is the best I have come across on this subject - and much more likely to penetrate and offer an immediate experience - which is how true knowledge is conveyedIt takes seriously, the work of inner reflection and active imagination - so valued by depth psychologist C G Jung with whose work Dr Stephen iHoeller is very familiar indeeed ( "The Gnostic Jung" is written by himThe illustrations are excellent - there is also a CD of meditations included / but it is the scholarly insight and directness of the text throughout which is exceptionalThis is not the stuff of popular magazines and lightweight fortune- telling it has real depth and immediacy and if it leads you to the Gnostic tradition ( an earlier slanton Christianity) so much the betterSelf reflection was never needed more than now - here is a vehicle to take you thereStephen Hoeller is an exceptional teacher - (advice given within to the cards used in the book )If Tarot is unknown to you this is a superior introduction / if you want to take a fresh look at a surprisingly good means of self examination, you will not be disappointedAs Socrates famously said "The un-examined life is not worth living " Barbara Passlow

Insightful meditations and path work.
This small but beautiful guide to the metaphors of the tarot as they relate to the Kabbalah provides tools and practices for self exploration.

Not a total letdown
No CD even though I paid for a new copy that even says "includes CD of meditations" on the cover. However I'm still delighted with the book itself! The texts of the meditations are complete and well written. Am looking forward to many astral adventures. Not bad book at all.

Fool's Pilgrimage
Stephan Hoeller is a great teacher and I thoroughly enjoy his writing. I did take classes from him and enjoyed them very much. I didn't have to buy this book for one of his classes but bought it because I am excited to read it. As yet, I haven't had the chance but it is waiting and I am certain I will enjoy it very much.

Good book. No CD
Hi! I haven’t finished ready the book, but I want people aware that the touted CD was not provided. Perhaps due to CD’s being an older technology? However, I was disappointed and felt that the seller should have mentioned it and altered the price.

Concise "spiritual windows" into the major arcana "archetypal" tarot paths ...
Concise "spiritual windows" into the major arcana "archetypal" tarot paths on the "Tree of Life" (Kabbalah). The CD with Stephan Hoeller's soothing voice is worth the price of the book. I listen to the major arcana meditations on the CD as often as I can, and I gain new insights each time.

worthwhile look at tree of life
This is a very interesting book, and I thought the cds were very good for anyone interested in spiritual growth, I dont think I would be interested much further in the study of the Tarot but the connection to kabbalistic meditations sparked a interest to read further and has been fasinating and valuable. Stephan Hoeller does a great job, and the cd that is included is very useful.

This wonderful book could be sub-titled "Everything you have ever wanted to know about the Kabbalah but were afraid to ask". This would not be strictly true, but it certainly gives a flavour of what you can expect from one of the most clearly written guides and explanations that I have ever read. In fact, Stephan Hoeller's style is so engaging that I found myself reading the first part of the book, which gives the background and history of how the Tarot came about and how it has been used and refined as an aid to meditation, rather as I would a novel, and found myself having to refer back to previous chapters as a form of revision. Make no mistake - although this is easily read, it is not a facile or superficial read; there is a great deal to take in and consider and generally absorb. It is enlightening in the best sense of the word and I thoroughly recommend it for anyone who is interested in this particular branch of esoteric thought but who has previously been put off by the abstruse style and content of many authorities. An extra plus is the acccompanying CD of Hoeller himself narrating the series of meditations that make up the second part of the book. Marvellous!

Interesting read
This is a very interesting angle on the Tarot. I liked that it came with a DVD (I'm old enough to know what these are) of the meditations in the book.
