Does this tool lay flat on a surface for easy marking of angles?

Hi Heather, Yes it does, the Angleizer will lay flat :) Kind regards, Steven

How wide are the slots?

The slot has a slight draft angle, printed side slightly wider. It's basically 1/4": .240 (bottom) to .255 (top/printed side), not a real tight tolerance: +/-.010. As I mentioned my review, for the price it does the job, you just have to excessively tighten up the unit or it will slip from your intended measurement.

Will this work as a router guide?

I have not tried with router, but it worked with Dremel oscillating multi tool. It should work with router - no problem. Keep in mind though, it is relatively small and there is no built in mechanism to provide square alignment between ruler. You can do it manually with carpenter square for each corner.

Could I make perfect 7” square?

No. It will only go to 6 & 3/4".
