Zero / tara works fine. For the price meets what is expected. The metal strip may be painful to your hand if you hang a heavy item.

Handy little scale, solidly built, with all the basic features. Versatile too! I use it to check and calibrate my torque wrenches with a bench vise. The price was a good value.
