Product Description Hello by Storyboard Review Storyboards fusion gem Hello, released by My Quiet Moon Records. Storyboard, the passionate trio comprised of guitarist David Boswell, electric bassist Rod MacDowell and drummer Alex Locascio, makes their recording debut as a group on Hello. While Boswell and MacDowell have played together many times through the years, and MacDowell and Locascio had been working together regularly in recent times, the trio had never previously performed as a separate band. For the fun of it, the three musicians jammed in the studio, making up melodies, rhythms and grooves as they went along without any definite plan beforehand. After a few days of enjoying each other s musical company and recording the results, they had a full CD filled with new and colorful music. So close was the communication between the three musicians, with one player s ideas quickly being adopted and built on by the others, that the 11 pieces on Hello each sound as if they were modern-day standards. While this fusion set is influenced and inspired a bit by Pat Metheny, the sound of the trio is quite original and individual. The superb guitarist David Boswell, who is heard on electric, acoustic and synthesized guitars, is generally the lead voice but he is constantly being inspired and pushed by the inventive bass lines of Rod MacDowell and the infectious rhythms of Alex Locascio. Since they all made strong contributions, the three musicians each share the composer s credits for the 11 songs that resulted from their jams. Each of the members of the trio has had a productive and busy career, gaining experience in a wide variety of idioms. David Boswell, who played early in his career with rock bands, considers the turning point of his musical life to be attending a Pat Metheny concert when he was 16. After earning a degree from the Grove School Of Music and studying film scoring at UCLA, he became a studio musician while leading his own trio for years. His previous recordings as a leader are Hold Tight To Your Dreams, Bridge Of Art, I Like That and Windows. Bassist Rod MacDowell, who (like Boswell) was originally from the San Francisco Bay area, considers his main influences to be Jaco Pastorius, Jimmy Johnson, Chris Squire and Geddy Lee. While he has played many different styles of music, performing in Storyboard gives him the opportunity to be at his most creative, adding to the power of Boswell s guitar solos while bringing a great deal of his musical personality to the ensembles. Drummer Alex Locascio, who was born in Chicago, says that he is most inspired by both Elvin Jones and James Brown s drummer Clyde Stubblefield. While heard mostly in a supportive role with Storyboard, his subtle contributions and versatility not only keep the music grooving but often take the ensembles into unexpected areas. Hello is just the first step in the exciting musical partnership of Storyboard.
