Chicago Med: Season Two [DVD]

A very strong second season
The second season of Chicago Med follows the same format as season 1. It is mostly a case-of-the-week procedural show in which one or two big cases come through the emergency department, with smaller cases interspersed throughout the episodes to give all the characters some screen time. There are also storylines that play out throughout the course of the season, mostly involving the personal or professional lives of the characters, which is when the show can get a bit soap operaish. Some of the character dynamics shift in season two with Reece (Rachel DiPillo) joining Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) in psychiatry as a resident, Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) is now the chief emergency resident, which results in some tension with Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), and Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnel) gets a new boss with whom he immediately clashes with. Dr. Rhodes also starts seeing Dr. Charles' daughter, Robyn, played by Mekia Cox, which causes all sorts of issues throughout the season. The DVD set just has the 23 episodes spread across six discs. There are no extras or special features at all. Also, there is no big crossover this season with the other One-Chicago shows, but characters from both Chicago PD and Chicago Fire do appear in smaller cameo or guest-starring roles throughout the season. The show continues to be strong in its second season. The show mostly focuses on the medical cases, but as I said above, it can get a bit soap operaish. The writing and acting are both strong and the writers do a good job of giving the large ensemble cast material to work with. The season ends on a very large cliffhanger that will undoubtedly reverberate going into season three. So, if you liked season 1, then it is definitely worth sticking with the show in season two.

Great improvement on S1.
I approached S2 with no great expectations as I found S1 dragged a little. S2 started a little the same but by around Episode 8 I was hooked. S1 appeared to be try to attempt too much relational goings on but S2 really got into the medical stuff. It definitely now has a bit of a Code Black feel with the latter’s grittiness. Many of the stories in this season dealt with ethical issues, issues of inadequate resourcing to meant the demand, to viruses infecting all the electronic equipment meaning the team had to resort to old-fashioned medicine. In the background we see the relational stuff, suicide of a colleague, a miscarriage, a surgeon with Aspergers, to love between co-workers. Good actors who have grown into their roles and lots of absorbing medical and relational stories make this very watchable.I’m already missing it and can’t wait to see S3.

Great TV medical series
I love this TV medical series and have watched it faithfully through three seasons. I purchased this DVD of season two for a friend who watched season one on Netflix but was unable to stream season two. She tried watching season three but felt like she was coming in the middle of everything and missing previous issues/relationships/etc., which, of course, she was. Season three of Chicago MD just ended and I really hope it is renewed for another season. It it set in the emergency room of a large Chicago hospital and the medical cases are fascinating (although I do have to look away sometimes when surgeries are being filmed in detail). The medical staff and the relationships between them and their patients keep me totally involved in their lives and profession. It's the best medical series I've enjoyed since Chicago Hope many years ago.

A great series but liberal left wing agendas are very plain
My husband and I love this series. It gets a bit too graphic at times, but we just shut our eyes for a few seconds. If you like medical dramas, we highly recommend this one. There is one we don't like and that is Hollywood pushing their liberal left policies down our throats with this show. What happen to the Hollywood of yesteryear, when actors and crew members did their job of entertaining and NOT shoving their political views on us? There was a time when actors like John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck, and Charlton Heston did their jobs and kept their political views to themselves. Hollywood needs to stick to acting and entertainment, and stay OUT of politics and political agendas.

Excellent, reviding, an intelligent show....
This new series is awesome.Love the cast. Love Dr. Charles. He just keeps things real. I know it is a tv show but, the best reality on Television now. I have first 3 seasons.....will get the others. The ONLY thing bothersome is everybody sleeping with each other. I'm old school. And, a nurse .... not all of us was like that.
