Apparel Making in Fashion Design

A good brain stretch for this home-sewer
I knew this was a teaching textbook when I bought it. I'm a self-taught home-sewer looking to improve my dress making skills. Pattern drafting is something I have zero experience with. This book details how to draft different designs into patterns. I imagine a teacher explaining many of the intricacies glossed over in a classroom. I went through each page and only saw the use of the french curve a handful of times. No matter, I'll figure it out. It's all the math equations I'll have to work on. Still, I think this will be a very educational book in learning to draft my own patterns.

Very useful
Very well organized book. Covering only women's apparel. The measures are in inches. The next edition should show both inches AND centimetres (that's why I gave only 4 stars).

The Best Basis for Building Your Skills
I'm a fashion design student and this is the book I learned pattern making from. Even without my teachers, including Injoo herself, this book is easily understood with clear directions and helpful diagrams. That being said, I have since read several books on the subject and time and again return to this one for what I'm looking for. She shows you how to do all the basic patterns, but more importantly, this book teaches you pattern making in such a way that it will give you the basis you need to develop you skills beyond what it contains, and to customize any and every pattern.I worked doing custom bridal gowns for almost two years, and when I had a question about how to do something, this is the book I turned to.

Awesome-few typos
The book is really a great tool to begin learning how to pattern make. The diagrams are very visual and easy to understand once you get going. The sloper method is best for beginners in my opinion. I had Injoo as a teacher for the first of 3 classes that follow this book at University of Cincinnati.I believe she's working on the 2nd edition. When that comes out don't hesitate to buy it.

Great book!
This is the book i learned patternmaking from... its a wonderful guide and teaches you how to really learn the basics of flat patternmaking but gives you the information to take your pattern skills much further! I have looked at other books for flat pattern making and this one is the best, and has detailed illustrations that are helpful as well.

Not what I expected
I went back and forth on this one. Bought it to learn how to make a Flat Pattern. Half of this book is on construction of each basic pattern (blouse, skirt, pants etc) with minimal variations. Lots of large drawings, very little text. Not for the person who already knows construction techniques. If I were a beginner in sewing I would need more information on construction than this gives. But good instruction on Flat Pattern making if you want to not use half of the book....
