Walnut Farm Design's 4 oz Beginner's Drop Spindle Kit gives you more fiber roving to enjoy learning to spin! Spinning is a lot of fun, and learning on a drop spindle is the first step, so make the first step more worth it, with more yarn to play with! It's fun, easy, and you'll have something to show for your efforts! A beginner will usually spin a bulky or super bulky first yarn once it is plied and 4 oz will give enough to make a small project like a hat or small cowl! It's really a simple skill, and is just something that you simply have to begin and continue to let your fingers get the feel of it. With this kit you get: -1 unfinished drop spindle with leader string and brass finished hook -4 oz handpainted 100% fine Polwarth wool, perfect for learning (colors of handpainted roving will vary, but you may comment on which colors you prefer, and I will try to oblige) -Instruction sheet with step by step instructions, pictures and links to youtube videos The whorl is 2 1/2" in diameter and 3/4" deep. The shaft is 3/8" and 11" long. I make them 11" long because I feel that 12" is a little too long, but shorter than 11" and you may run out of room. I chose fine Polwarth combed top to include in my beginner spindle kits because Polwarth is a fine, soft wool with a longer staple length than merino wool. A longer staple length fiber is easier to learn on and Polwarth makes a nice, strong singles yarn if you choose not to ply it. You can paint or stain this spindle to make it your own! Learning to drop spindle before moving on to using a spinning wheel is a must! It is an invaluable first step to learn how to draft, and learn how the yarn twists. It was much more fun, easier, and quicker than I had imagined. It's easy to do it while watching tv, and easy to take it with you when traveling!
