Excellent for removing iron from well water
I got this activated carbon to use in my shower heads. We have well water that is rich in iron and in our case it is "red-water iron" as opposed to "clear-water iron." For our kitchen sink we installed an Epic Smart System filter, which was the best choice for getting clean water to drink and cook with. But I tried 2 types of shower filters that did not work at all in getting iron out of our water (too bad Epic does not make them yet). The activated carbon worked as expected. I simply opened the plastic filter containers that were inside the shower heads, removed the contents and filled them with this activated carbon and voila! We have had iron-free water to shower with for the past few weeks. I just cannot tell how long it should last, but I'll get some iron testing strips to find out. However, activated carbon has such a large surface area that I expect it to last at least a month with my highly iron rich water. One of the shower heads has a much smaller filter container than the other, so I expect that one to last for a smaller period of time. We know the iron is being captured by the carbon because our skin and hair do not feel dry any longer. The difference is absolutely obvious and the result is less dry skin and soft hair. I'm very happy with my purchase and delivery was quick.

It seems to work well for aqueous solutions
I used it to clean aqueous ethanol solutions. It seemed to work well though the solutions became pretty foggy due to suspended small charcoal particles. I could filter most of them but some still remained in the solution.
