The name mistletoe comes from two Anglo Saxon words 'Mistel' (which means dung) and 'tan' (which means twig or stick). So you could translate Mistletoe as 'poo on a stick'!!! Not exactly romantic is it! It is, however, a long standing tradition for people to kiss under the mistletoe at Christmas. But, live mistletoe is a devious, toxic plant that is poisonous to children, cats, dogs, and other small animals. That is why we offer artificial mistletoe that is not only safe to have in your house, but will last for many years to come. My decorations are arranged back-to-back around the artificial mistletoe so they can be hung from a door or the ceiling. This ornament has one mistletoe branche and is 8 inches long (with hanger), 7 inches long (without hanger), 4.5 inches wide, and 2 inches high. This artificial mistletoe has both milky white and green berries, just like live mistletoe. You will notice in some of the photos there are red and green bells hanging from the ornament. The elegant large red and green bells are included with the mistletoe decoration but they are not attached. You may use them or not as you please. In an 1820 story, Washington Irving described Christmas decorations that included "the mistletoe with its white berries, hung up, to the imminent peril of all the pretty housemaids." Will your home boast a kissing mistletoe bough this year? I hope so. I am sure if you purchase this decoration you will have a very merry KISS-MAS (boo!!!) this year and for many years to come.
