Motorcycle Reflective Safety Tape - Black Sew-On

I've uploaded some pics so you can decide for yourself. I always hate hearing about how wonderful or awful a product is but the passionate reviewer couldn't simply upload a picture.Anyway I did expect something a little more revolutionary, like solid deep opaque black that magically became blindingly reflective with any light source in a dark environment. Not exactly the case here. BUT, what I will say is that it's a good price point for the product and since nobody offers anything similar, really, nobody this is the best you'll get.I guess from the description of sew-on tape I also imagined it would be a little more polished off(seamed/reinforced) edges, but that wasn't stated anywhere so that falls on me.From the pictures uploaded you can see what it looks like out of the box and what it looks like in a darkened room with no light source and then with a flashlight directed at it from about 4 feet. Is it reflective, yes! As reflective as the plastic silver reflective tape with metallic flake, or as much as some name brands sports gear, not the kind I own. But again the whole appeal of this is to appear black and subtle during the day and give off visible reflectivity at night when headlights are present, and it does that. The market price for similar products is ridiculous so, short of buying reflective clothing, safety apparel, this is the best you're going to get at a good reasonable price.I have not tested this through and number of washing yet so I will adjust/update if needed later.

Ok, hopefully I will never know if this product helps me avoid being hit by a bloody cager, but I can say that I went home and tested it in the dark. It's really cool that it is as black as black can be in regular light, then in the dark you shine some light on it (or flash camera you can see really good then) and it is an almost blinding white. Cool stuff.

Black reflective tape is a great idea for those of us who like black jackets, black helmets, black bikes, and black nights. This tape is indeed black and looks fine on the black jacket in the day. However, it is not a reflective as the description says. I tried illuminating it with my car lights, and it just doesn't look like the picture regardless of viewing angle. However, it is much better than nothing. I attached a wide stretch of it across the back of my jacket, and I do feel a little safer. Be aware that it is not easy to sew it to the jacket. The plastic insert in the back of my particular jacket cannot be removed, so it was necessary to hand-sew the tape to the jacket. This was a difficult process due to the thickness of the jacket.

This is an outstanding product! Works best on a dark fabric, as in daylight it basically appears black, but that would be a matter of taste. But at night, when hit by light, it's like it has its own batteries! The photo really gives you a good idea of its appearance in a headlight beam. Very lightweight & flexible; sews on very easily. I bought it for my teenage daughter's "messenger bag." She didn't want a backpack with already sewn-on reflectors (e.g. LL Bean), and coats with reflective patches were out ("not cool," but I also wanted something she would use every day - well, she has to take her books, but doesn't always need a jacket). I needed something that would blend in with the bag & strap material (teens are so conscious of appearance!) and not "stand out" when it wasn't needed, yet blaze out for safety. We also wanted something "passive" that she wouldn't forget when running out of the house to catch the school bus or have to turn on. This is PERFECT. She's happy, we're happy; she's safe. Outstanding product. There's also enough that when this bag wears out, we have plenty more to do another bag (or two). And, to top it off, the merchant was excellent. Received it even faster than estimated, as advertised, well packed and in perfect condition. If I needed more, I'd buy again in a second!

This reflective is SO bright. I was a bit skeptical when I pulled it out of the box, but then I put it in front of a headlight. WOW! It is not actually tape; it needs to be sewn on. It is strips of reflective material. I've hand sewn it, used a sewing machine on it and used material glue. All of the gear that I have used this on has held up just fine. It is not a deep black, it is subtly lighter than that, but that is because of the reflective properties. I've sewn it onto riding jackets and bags, both black. While you can see the strip, it basically looks like it's supposed to be there. And, it is a very non-invasive way (the complete opposite of a high viz vest, but just as noticeable) to add a huge margin of safety when riding at night. When I run out, I will definitely buy more (there is a TON of this stuff in the package!). I couldn't be happier with this stuff.

The color of this tape is more of a dark gray than black, but it's still better than bright yellow or lime green! The tape is also somewhat thick and stiff so it's difficult to hand sew onto a garment. It's a bit tricky to sew it on using a sewing machine, but it's still easier than hand-sewing it!I like the fact that I am now more visible to traffic at night without looking like a police officer or road worker during the day.

I moved to Boston and now I can walk everywhere instead of driving. The downside is sometimes the cars don't see pedestrians until the very last moment. There's another review on here from a mother who sewed this tape on her daughter's messenger bag. That convinced me to give it a try. There's quite a lot of tape included in the package. I only used one strip for my bag, and I think the rest could easily be enough for 4 or 5 more items.Sewing it was relatively easy. I don't have a sewing machine, so I did it by hand with a regular needle and thread. I put it all along the center of the cross-body strap. The strap is made of black seatbelt material, and the tape blends in with it perfectly during the daytime. This is a great solution for being visible. I can wear different coats, but I always have the same bag, so there's no additional vest or wrist strips or ankle strips to remember.
