Product Description OOIOO has always created a musical language all its own. Under the leadership of Yoshimi, a founding member of Boredoms, the group has recorded six albums that have subverted expectations and warped perceptions of what constitutes pop and experimental music. Bridging genres as wide-ranging as punk, jazz, psychedelic rock, and more traditional tribal music such as gamelan, OOIOO’s focus has never been to replicate. Instead, OOIOO incorporate these inspirations into their consistently inventive, constantly shifting musical frameworks. They take their love of indigenous music into an entirely new dimension by freely weaving organic and electric tones into a vivid tapestry, employing their keen sense of colour and texture. Previously released only on CD, OOIOO’s seminal album Gold & Green is finally widely released on vinyl for the first time. The original single LP edition was only released in Japan in 2000 and did not include all the album tracks. The album includes guest appearances from Sean Lennon, Seiichi Yamamoto (Boredoms), and Yuka Honda (Cibo Matto). The album packaging, designed by Yoshimi, is a beautiful gatefold album jacket with full color inner sleeves filled with glorious psychedelic drawings. 2LP Gatefold Review Challenging music doesnt get more fun than this. --NPR MusicAn extraordinary band. --The New York TimesOOIOO traffic in a crafty kind of post-punk primitivism…the synths, power chords, polyrhythmic drumming and wordless chants building into an irresistible, throbbing whole --The Wire

OOIOO ??
Well with a band name like OOIOO you gotta expect something different and this is just that. But great stuff, really enjoying multiple plays.

a hurricane smashing a poodles face with a brick
If you like any sort of left field music this album is a must have. It touches on numerous different styles and mixes them in odd but pleaseing ways. OOIOO's previous albums are both fantastic but this surpasses them both, both soothing and stimulating at once and no duff tracks to harsh you ....

Adventurous and colourful
Gold and Green is definitely one of the high points of this Boredoms side project. Yoshimi plays an amazing array of instruments throughout this record. The dense layering and repetition on some songs is almost trance inducing. There is a mountain top freshness to this disc, despite the heavy fug created on some tracks. There is a feeling of optimism and achievement along with the audible pleasure of experimenting while creating joiyful, accessible music celebrating nature and sound. If you're new to OOIOO, start with this record and work outwards. And if you haven't yet, check out Boredoms' monumental Vision Creation Newsun also. Green and Gold works as a nice companion piece to VCN.
