Hoping to use as a daybed so what does the back of the headboard look like?

It’s not able to be used as a daybed. It’s a true twin size bed which makes it too small to convert to a daybed.

Will I need a box spring with this frame?

No, it's a good frame, very comfy, but get a 12 in. Mattress at least.

Would it be bad if i did use a box spring? (i know you don’t one but i kinda prefer one)

You really don’t need it. I prefer a box spring as well. It makes the bed extremely high so I have to use a step stool to get up. But with or w/o the bed structure is amazing.
