Love it.
I considered just buying an older version of this and just getting the new USB C adapter and remote separately but it worked out more expensive. You get everything u need in the one box in this kit. It's very well made and comfortable to use and I was really really surprised how good the motion tracking is on both the headset and remote. Screen resolution is OK but PSVR is probably better but for £100 and using a Note 8 this is really good. There is a surprising number of games, "experiences" and videos in the store and it was nice and easy to set up. I can highly recommend Netflix VR. Worked really well and one of the reasons i got this was so I can watch it on the VR while my Mrs watches rubbish on standard TV. :-) works really well.

Doesn't work 2023
Don't buy this if you're looking for an easy VR experience, to get it to work since Facebook bought Oculus and support for this was abandoned is extreme effort...I've bearly been able to use it and since bought something else to replace it.Good kit, terrible apps and abysmal support to get it to work

Excellent VR headset if you have recent Samsung smart phone
I used this Samsung Gear VR with my Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone and it's superb. The S8's OLED (not LCD) screen with high pixel count gives amazing results - better than Oculus Go and Google Cardboard etc. The bluetooth controller is useful but not always necessary and sometimes it's easier to just use touchpad on headset. The S8 has fast processor and works with hundereds of VR games. It also works with older Samsungs but the newer the phone the better. Great item but careful you don't break rear phone glass cover when attaching to hinge - i did after just a dozen uses.

do your homework before buying a VR headset. it's not instant entertainment!
I received the VR gear headset for my birthday. I found the set up lengthy, the apps needed space on my phone I didn't have. once all of these things where sorted I was good to go. I found the vision blurry even after focusing the device and the remote laser kept moving so I had to keep resetting it through-out games. I would advise not to eat before using VR as it made me really sick! I also had to buy a new cable to charge the mobile while in the headset (small slot on VR headset thats not normal charger shape - bought type c cable)hands up this is not as good as I thought it would be especially for £90!

Great, but beware of WiFi issues with Controller
Astonishing results for the price. Very easy to set up and quality is as good as you could expect through a phone. However, be careful with one issue. My phone's (S8) WiFi connection kept cutting out when I was watching videos, which caused the content to stop. After looking into this for a while, I found out that the Bluetooth controller clashes with the phone's WiFi signal, because I had a router which was broadcasting on 2.4GHz (the same frequency as Bluetooth). Searching around for a solution to this, I found that a lot of people have this issue and the only way around this is to use a router's 5Ghz band. My router didn't have a 5GHz band so I ended up having to buy a link router which allowed me to broadcast on 5GHz. There is no other way around this as I can see so if you've got a 2.4GHz only router, beware that this might cause you headaches as you can't really use the headset with any online content if you end up with this problem.

Gear VR
Fantastic thing. I'm the 1st time VR gooles user, but what a fantastic thing. You can see place you've never travelled and feels like you are actually there. Also games aren't bad as well. Tried an interactive video and it felt so real. Rollecoaster even if not real turned my stomak upside down :-) It felt so real :-) Really interesting thing with lot of potencial.Played with that for few hours and it juiced my galaxy s9+ to half. So not bad considering non stop video and sound playing.

Disappointing
After debating over which VR headset to buy I thought I would play it safe and pay the extra to get the official Samsung version which is compatible with my S9 phone. Although the packaging looks classy, once I opened it up I have to say that I was disappointed with the VR headset. It does not look worth the money that I paid for it, if I'm honest it looks very cheap. Once I took it out of the box I then discovered it's a DIY kit, they haven't even bothered to fix the straps and left that fiddly job for you to do.As for connecting your phone to it, due to the VR headset being made of plastic you need to be very careful as it is very easy to break and the times that I've used it so far have broken off the phone connector each time trying to insert the phone into the unit. The controller that comes bundled with the unit is a law unto itself, I guess it's designed to be similar to a (virtual) laser pointer the theory is it works by blue tooth connection to your phone, I spent 20mins last night trying to get it to work and despite the phone saying that the 2 of them were connected the controller begged to differ. At this point I should mention that the controller is essential for the usability of the headset, there's no ideal way to operate the headset without it. When the controller does decide to work it seems determined to not respond to your commands and the pointer seems to point everywhere but where you want it to go.So far, the limited use I've managed to have, has not been brilliant. Watched a music video on youtube and as much as it's impressive being a larger video, the sound hasn't been great and had great problems with adjusting the cinema screen that you view it on as it was off-centre. I also watched a rollercoaster video, which, I assume, is supposed to mimic you actually riding on the rollercoaster. Firstly, the rollercoaster itself was rather tame and your position is rather weird as you seem to be sitting above the passengers and when I decided to look around, I looked down and could see the base of the camera that was used to film it, if there was any VR illusions of being there they were well and truly shattered after that. Admittedly I have only skimmed the surface in terms of apps etc, due to the problems with setting up the headset, so I would like to think there are more thrilling experiences to be had.In summary, if you have infinite amounts of patience and have measured expectations of what you are getting for your money then you may like this headset. The only saving grace so far is that I paid £70.00 rather than the original price of £100.
