This plate/platter is about 10.5" in diameter, made from white stoneware clay fired to cone 5. It is perfect for a holiday or hostess gift. It is striking on display but it was made to be used for special occasions. I made this plate by hand using a lace doily. I love the texture and complexity of doilies, but don't use them around the house. By incorporating doilies into my work, I not only preserve their beauty in clay, I can share them with others. I glazed this plate with 2 transparent pastel glazes, 1 pink and the other purple, overlapping them to create a painterly effect. This also helped to enhance the texture of the doily. The pictures start with the whole plate to show the overall effect and each one moves closer to show more detail. The color of the glaze is accurate on my monitor.
