What are the plates made of; are they plastic /card?

These plates are made of strong card. Very rigid, over 2cms deep and good for reheating food in a microwave oven.

Can these plates be recycled with paper and card?

The plates are paper and can be recycled.

Could I use these for printing ? Are they slightly shiny and similar to polystyrene?

They are not shiny, they are a matte finish and very good quality, quite hard wearing.

I want to put meals in the freezer for my dad to microwave, would these plates be ok for that

I think if you put grease proof paper on the plate it would be ok but they're probably too porous over time for what you propose. However, I suggest you experiment with a sample meal, it might work.
