Great for our 3 year old
Great short stories. Ordered 2 as they were on offer. Our little boy loves all of the Julia Donaldson animated shows. Have been buying these books recently and loves them equally as much

Great but not as memorable as the first
The media could not be loaded. After having read the original innumerable times, we naturally had to get the sequel. Our daughter had fallen in love with all things Zog, Pearl and Gadabout. We were both excited to see what this new instalment had in store (yes, I was as, if not more eager to see what the expanded Zog universe had in store) and this did not disappoint. The story feels longer (although I haven’t specifically counted pages and verses) which is not a problem now my daughter is 2, but I could imagine for younger toddlers, their attention may dwindle before the end. There is the same sense of scale that was established in the original, where your imagination fills in a beautiful, sprawling medival fantasy world, and the illustrations more than do this justice.Pearl is definitely the main focus of this story, which is great for little girls seeing a female character take the lead and sticking it to the patriarchy. Zog and Gadabout are given smaller supporting roles, but still feature in the majority of the story.Although the narrative is entertaining, the story feels a little less imaginative than the first, and slightly less memorable. The verse structure and rhymes suffer the same problem too. For example, there are probably no more than one or two recurring motifs and even after having read this in excess of a couple of dozen times, the lines just don’t stick in you memory as easily as the verses from the original. I’m probably being a bit harsh, because my daughter still repeatedly asks for this book, and this is likely just my inner childrens’ book critic coming out in full force.Despite the few gripes mentioned, I still think this is a must buy for any Zog or Donaldson fan, even if it can’t quite repeat the same wonder as it’s predecessor.
