Good Grips Handheld Mandoline Slicer | Adjustable Thickness Settings, Hand Guard Included, Slice Vegetables and Fruit, Easy-Clean Design, Non-Slip Grip

I love Oxo Good Grips products for their quality and price, so when I wanted a good mandoline slicer, I chose Oxo for that too. I really only wanted a simple gadget mainly to slice potatoes thinly for dauphinoise potatoes, I was not disappointed. The slicer works well, giving uniform slices of potatoes, and now that I have got used to it, I will be using it for a lot more slicing jobs. The thickness of the slice is also very easy to adjust. However, the blade is SHARP (very sharp), so rather that just use the blade guard, I also used a mesh metal glove to ensure my fingertips remained intact. The scaredy cat in me didn't trust myself to wash it without cutting myself either, so into the dishwasher it went, and all was great. I love the mandoline slicer - I will get lots of use out of it, but I would suggest using the metal mesh glove. I know it will last me ages, and have no hesitation in recommending it as an essential kitchen tool.

Upon arrival I was impressed with the quality of this item. It is relatively compact, well made and do exactly what we need. I proceeded to tell my partner and her teenage son that they have to be very careful as this is sharp, use the guard, teenager not to be unsupervised to begin with etc. etc. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I'm cooking tea, music playing, glass of wine poured, I'm in full flow. Time to start slicing all of the items for the overly elaborate pickled Asian salad which was going with out meal. Revelling at how well the slices were coming out and being proud of my work I instantly came down to earth with a crash. Searing pain through my finger, red on my hand... You see I wasn't using the guard, I know better and (thought) I was being careful. After the blood cleared this device had removed a chunk of my nail and, possibly a section of the nail bed. I summary for the stars: Well made and good design - 5 stars How it feels when you get it wrong - 0 stars Sharpness - 5 stars (it cut through nail with zero resistance). Seeing as the zero is due to my stupidity it has to be five stars, buy but be careful.

This is not bad at all. We had a previous one which sliced into box but it didn't last long. We merely chose this because of the reviews and the quality holds up. It can be awkward to keep still at times however it's very well made and I'm to worried about this breaking easily. Slices well and washes easily. Good.

Great little mandolin. I'm not sure why people are so surprised they can cut themselves when they use this - it's literally a tool for slicing vegetables quickly and easily, it should be obvious that if it cuts a vegetable it will cut your hand. That being said, it's a really good slicer for its price. The thickness options are good and easy to change between, the thinnest is thinner than I expected given theres only 3 options, and its ridiculously easy to clean. I have one of the bigger ones with a box underneath that has all the different chopping attachments that I mostly just use as a mandolin and I wanted one to keep in my locker at work to be able to take healthier meals in as I work shifts, and if it wasnt for the fact that I want to still use the other chopping attachments I would bin that one and get another of these, as this is far superior.

Great kitchen tool, we use it for all slicing, the holder keeps fingers out of the way. Love the way of changing slice thickness it's so easy.

This was a very good manoline. It is super sharp annd cuts so beautifully. It never became blunt l. I avoided slicing tomatoes as these are the wordy things to blunt blade. Unfortunately the clear plastic fell off after 11 months. I contacted oxo and they have a lifetime guarantee and are sending me a replacement. I am very happy with the product. I bought an alternative when mine broke for double the optic eod this and it is nowhere near as good. My only gripe is that this product y doesn’t julienne. I used it mainly for onions but occasionally salads and potatos

At first glance, it does what it says on the tin, but this gadget isn't all it's cracked up to be. For starters, the three slice thickness settings are barely different; they could do with being further apart - room for improvement there, I reckon. Secondly, the safety holder is a bit rubbish, especially with soft fruits and veg like bananas and tomatoes. The prongs meant to grip the food are too thick, and you need to press down quite hard for it to work safely. This ends up squashing your produce before you even start slicing! Never try to do this pressing down lark on the slicer itself - use a flat, sturdy surface instead. Thirdly, I strongly advise only using this slicer on a flat, solid base like a table, worktop, or a chopping board that's firmly placed on either of those. Lastly, watch your fingers when using this thing! The blade is razor-sharp and could give you a nasty cut if you're not careful. In a nutshell, it's not the worst kitchen gadget I've ever bought, but it's far from the best. Use with caution, and don't expect miracles!

This mandolin has made cutting vegetables for my dehydrator such a breeze Pros: -the blade is very sharp and cut through the veggies fast and efficiently - the handle on the part that helps hold your veggies in place is very comfortable on your hands. It has little spikes on it so that your veggie can stay in place as you slice through it - I appreciate the visual illustration to determine the size of a cut you would like for your veggies, as opposed to a numerical value. It is easier to see exactly how thick I would like something instead of guessing what it would look like. - the thickest setting (as shown in the last photo) is just big enough. -the handle locks into place on the mandolin so you do not lose it while it is in storage Happy with this mandolin!

Terrible. The package was damaged when delivered. Someone has opened the original package and put a defective item back

I always hesitated to buy one of these things because I felt it's more hassle (cleaning, storing, making sure you don't cut yourself etc.) than benefits but now that I got one I wish I'd done so sooner! It cuts everything perfectly and in a matter of seconds, it's safe to use, and the food looks much nicer! I'm glad I read some reviews before choosing this brand, as it seems they were right and this object is perfectly reliable. I feel my cooking life would have benefitted (and been more fun!) if I'd added this sooner.
