Weber Rapidfire Compact Chimney Starter for Charcoal Barbecues

I used to light my BBQ using the usual method, but the results were very hit and miss. Sometimes the coals would be raging hot, while other times it would take forever to get them ready. Since buying the Weber Chimney Starter, I’ve never looked back. It consistently gets the coals properly hot within about 30 minutes, and the heat is much more even and reliable. It’s simple to use, saves a lot of time and takes the guesswork out of lighting the BBQ. One of those gadgets that makes you wonder how you managed without it! Highly recommended.

This is the smaller version. It is ideal for use with the Weber Go-anywhere portable barbecue, not for the full-size ones. It is very effective at getting the charcoal well lit, ready to decant onto the barbecue. I have only used it with irregular lump-wood charcoal. It's fine. I guess it would be even better with barbecue briquettes. You need a pair of suitable gloves (rough gardening gloves will do), and you need something heatproof to put the chimney on once you have decanted the hot charcoal, for it to cool down. Not to be used with young children around - they won't appreciate the danger. It is EXTREMELY HOT. Snag: it is bulky. There's no way of reducing its size. So adds a lot of volume to your portable barbecue kit. Recommended though, for reliable starting. UPDATE, 1 year later Even better. Now I'm used to it, it gives perfect results 100% of the time. Works fine with wood charcoal or briquettes. If filled it is enough for cooking for 3-4. Three-quarters full it is fine for 2 people. It takes about 25 minutes between lighting (one fire-lighter is plenty!) and being ready to decant it into the barbecue. I wouldn't be without this. It is brilliant.

Good customer service

I bought this as part of a combo deal with the Weber Go-Anywhere barbecue. I have never owned a chimney starter before, and it really does its job well by getting the coal going fast. However, it is a tad bit too small for practical use. You have to start a batch of coal, spread it out into the barbecue, and then immediately add more to get a proper fire going. On the plus side, if it were any bigger, it wouldn't fit inside the barbecue for storage, which is convenient. But overall, it requires a bit too much extra work to get the grill ready due to the limited capacity.

The other reviews are all true 😀. I've been messing about for years furiously fanning the charcoal with an old plastic plate, and more recently blasting it with air from an Air Hammer paddling pool pump. A chimney starter is the modern way and achieves the end far more effectively, in less time, and with zero effort. I'd never go back. As for this particular model, I've used it only once so far. It lights just enough charcoal for a 40x20 cm cooking area. A marginally bigger chimney wouldn't have hurt but this one is small enough to pack away inside the grill so it suits my use in the caravan.

Having read reviews, I finally decided to buy the starter and it is fantastic. Just use one small piece of firefighter, full with charcoal or lumpwood, light it and allow 30 minutes to get a full chimney load of lit charcoal/Lumpwood. A great piece of kit for any BBQ station.

Absolute game changer

It's perfect for the small 37 cm kettle weber or go anywhere webber. Fits in the go anywhere webber if you pack it in. What I don't like about it is that it can dent easily. It's not a thick plate of steal. But it's does what it needs to do. Excellent for Camping or fishing trips.

Der kleine Rapidfire bietet genug durchgeglühte Briketts um meinen kleinen mobilen Grill zu befüllen. Die Handhabung ist kinderleicht: Kamin mit Briketts befüllen, in der Kohlewanne des Grills ein kleines Feuer entfachen aus zB 3-4 Anzündwürfeln aus Pappe und Wachs, den Kamin darauf platzieren und sehen die die Flammen nach oben gesaugt werden. Nach wenigen Minuten sieht man an der praktischen Skala wie lange es noch dauert (drei Löcher im Kamin, erst glüht die Kohle unten, dann kommt die Mitte dazu, kurz danach oben), wenn alle Punkte leuchten dauert es nicht mehr lange und auch die obersten Kohlen werden weiß, also einfach die Kohlen in der Kohlewanne verteilen und es kann direkt losgelegt werden. Der Vorgang dauert gute 15 Minuten - da lassen viele Leute ihren Elektrogrill länger vorheizen. Die Anzündwürfel sind in der Zeit auch vollkommen ausgebrannt und man hat reine Holzkohle im Grill. Im Vergleich zu Konkurrenzprodukten punktet der Weber durch den funktionierenden Hitzeschild und das Material des Handgriffes, man kann ihn mit bloßen Händen anfassen, auch die Spirale als Unterboden ist durchdachter als Blech mit Löchern. Nachteil ist natürlich die Größe, der nimmt schon deutlich mehr Platz weg als eine Flasche Brandbeschleuniger aber ich möchte keine 60 Minuten warten, bis ich anfangen kann zu grillen. Also muss der Kamin auch bei der mobilen Nutzung mit dabei sein. Anstatt im Grill den Kamin anzufeuern kann man natürlich auch eine feuerfeste Unterlage verwenden, um eine zweite Ladung Kohlen nachzuschütten. Ich bin von dem Produkt vollkommen überzeugt und kann den Anzündkamin jedem empfehlen, der schnell den Grill anhaben möchte - das Material wirkt so wertig, dass es wohl eine einmalige Anschaffung sein wird, bei moderater Nutzung. Klare Kaufempfehlung.

Made my life easier. Very good for small barbeque kit. If you have a big barbeque set, it is better to buy a bigger Fireplace lighter.

Compré esta chimenea de encendido junto a una Weber Smokey Joe y estoy muy contenta con ambas. La chimenea ayuda a reducir el tiempo de encendido del carbón o las briquetas, además de asegurar que se prendan de forma homogénea. También sirve a modo de medidor, ya que ofrece la cantidad de combustible perfecta para usar con las barbacoas más pequeñas de la familia Weber -para las de 47 y 57 cm, mejor usar el otro modelo de chimenea más grande. Otro aspecto importante que pocos comentan es que, a la larga, ayuda a conservar mejor tu barbacoa Weber. Conozco a varias personas que prenden la leña, el carbón o las briquetas directamente sobre la parrilla de sus barbacoas y, tras unos pocos usos, las parrillas se deforman e incluso el esmalte que cubre y protege el cuerpo de la barbacoa comienza a descascarillarse. Por tanto, es preferible encender el combustible usando este accesorio y renovarlo cuando se deteriore del todo que tener que comprar una barbacoa nueva o varios repuestos de la parrilla. A la larga, sale más económico así y te alegras de haberlo comprado. Conclusión: considero que la chimenea de encendido es un complemento ideal e imprescindible para tu barbacoa, ya sea de Weber u otra marca.
