4 stars so far....
This flexible plastic thermometer is about 4-5 inches long by .5 inches tall/high. It is meant for fish tanks and is not a static "stick" plastic it has mild adhesive on black back. I am using it on a globe 2.5 gal tank and the round shape of the tank makes the thermometer tend to fall off. I would think on a sheer/flat/non curved surface it would probably preform better. It is made for the outside of tank and is close to accurate in my tests.I chose this one since the hanging type wont work with tank shape and the floating one with suction cup was played with by many beta fish and quite a few reviewers reported the fish broke the glass that contained the thermometer making much mess....I went with this my only other apparent choice. So far I am satisfied...except for the adhesive problem. Will add more detail about range and pics in update....Sept 2, 2015 sticking fairly well to globe shaped glass tank...have to restick edges once a week on ends...to be expected...its not leaving any adhesive on glass as of yet but no heater used yet...may have to when season changes as betas are TROPICAL FISH like 76-80 ish degrees fahrenheit.Colors= green=exact tempTan/red= 1 degree lowerBlue /violet= 1 degree higherAdded some pics

Works well
This is a great little thermometer for a quick-glance read of the temperature.Being measured in 2 degree increments, with some human judgment of 'in between', this isn't a terribly precise device. However, if you want to know if your heater is working correctly, this product will let you know with a quick glance. Small floating or hang-in thermometers require you to get up-close and look at the little red line. Digital thermometers offer large displays and more digits of precision, but require batteries and and a place to put them.I just have this stuck to the front-left corner of my aquarium, just under the gravel line. It requires no power or maintenance, and as long as the room is lit I can read it from several feet away. Just what I needed.

Small not an eyesore and works well
I like this, I placed it on the bottom corner of me small tank, it's not easily seen. It reads easily does the job intended and my tank doesn't have a bunch of stuff I it that doesn't belong there. We build fish tanks to create an environment that looks nice and works well for the occupants, big equipment and tools required to make it all work can often be eyesores and look out of place throwing the serenity and fantasy of the small world you created off. This little inconspicuous sticker does its job and isn't in your way.

Did it's job for a while, then stopped working.
I know this is more my fault than the items but it stopped working this summer. The chiller for my fish tank is a tray of ice cubes in the morning and at night, so the tank stays hot. I'm guessing it's over 84 F because the colors around that area are permanently lit up. On an unusually cool day like today (it's been about 64F since 4AM, now 6:45PM) the rest of the strip works fine for reading the temperature, just the the higher end of the spectrum is blotted out.

precise to 1 degree
I bought this for my betta tank. It is a curved bowl, and this thermometer stuck well on the curve. On the instructions it states a green number means the actual temp. A tan/red number means 1 degree lower, and blue/violet means 1 degree higher. That means this is precise to 1 degree. It ranges from 66 to 84 degrees, and has a Celsius scale as well. Because the meter changes color I can tell about what temp it is from across the room. The temp changes almost instantly as well. The piece measures 4.25 inches long by 0.75 inches high.I tried peeling up part of it to see how easy it would be to reposition, and found it sticks quite well, but does come up clean after being on for a few days.EDIT: I tried peeling it off to remove it a month later, but the adhesive stays stuck to the glass. Not only that, but it ruined the temperature sensitive material when I tired to remove it. Luckily it was on the 80 degree side. I would say this is replaceable, if it is not perfectly on the first time, but not removable after several weeks.

faulty unit (1 out of 3)
This would be a 5-star review, except that one of the three I purchased was bad. The paper backing had somehow bonded to the thermometer, so when I tried to peel the paper, it ripped the back off. Seems like a manufacturing defect. These things happen. The other two work great, so I guess I have to keep buying them. Judging from the reviews here, this seems to be an uncommon experience.Bought these months ago just to have on hand, so way too late to return. Just my luck!I have one on a larger tank, and based on the temps showing on the other thermometers, it seems fairly accurate, probably w/in 1 degree of the true temp.EricPS since I'm writing this review, a suggestion: would it be too much trouble to update the picture to reflect what is actually being sold (ie horizontal instead of vertical)?

Takes a bit of time, but works just fine
At first I thought it was defective, but after two days began to work. When I first bought this and stuck it on, the color marking the temp wouldn't show up. So I checked it the morning after and was slightly unhappy that it still appeared to be faulty. I wasn't overly annoyed, as it's cheap and that's what happened when you run the risk of buying something super inexpensive. At some point during the next few days, I went to check and peel it off if it was still acting irregular; I realized it had begun to show up and read properly. I'll be editing my ratings if something goes south within the year that i'm use it, also keeping in mind that a less expensive item may be made of less expensive material. I'm giving it five stars :)

Works, but needs some light to see
I thought I'd try one of these and the only problem I have with it is it's really hard to see if it is not directly lit on the face. I put it on the side of my tank which is not exactly dark, but not bright enough to see the numbers. Definitely, test it where you are going to put it and make sure you can see it well. I thought it would have a bit more contrast. Other than that, it seems to work great.
