Perfect for the job
These were perfect for filling dowel holes. Haven't stained them yet so I don't know what the uptake of stain will be like but pleased with the size and quality.

Uniform, accepts stain and polyurethane well.
The uniformity of these tapered plugs ('stoppers') insures a uniform tap-in without glue. Typically these are used above wood screw heads. The uniformity allows me to set the screw countersink a little deeper to make the tapped-in tapered plug head flush with the surface wood. Less sanding down the plug down to flush saves time and labor. The oak plugs have grain which I align to the wood prior to installation. Takes stain and polyurethane well. Highly recommended for an unobtrusive clean thin circle line showing through the finish where disassembly is infrequent such as wooden furniture, frames and flooring.
