You'll Find Conference Rooms, a Children's Playground, and a Timelessly Fabulous Movie
I grew up watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show, first listening to the soundtrack at probably far too young an age before being introduced to the movie and its audience participation later on. For almost as long, I've known that Shock Treatment exists, yet it carried such a stigma with not only my family and fellow Rocky fans but even Richard Freaking O'Brien himself that I stayed far, far away. The only things I really knew were that it takes place inside a TV studio, Barry, Susan, and Tim aren't in it, and it's just about the worst film the world has ever been subjected to.Now in my mid-thirties, oversaturated with Rocky and looking for something new in its vain that might satisfy my craving for more bizarre hijinks and toe tapping numbers, I decided to finally give Shock Treatment a chance. I had heard the title song, as well as "Denton U.S.A.", and I thought they seemed alright. I started the film with an open mind, braced for anything that might come my way with my expectations set so low they were under the floor. About halfway through the movie was when I realized what a terrible injustice it is that Shock Treatment is forced to be a sequel to RHPS.Shock Treatment is not a sequel. It's not a prequel. Heck, it isn't an "equal" either, as went the incredibly off the mark slogan.Shock Treatment is Shock Treatment, and it's one of my favorite movies of all time. The plot is nonsensical, the tone and pacing is all over the place, and no, there's no Tim Curry to be found anywhere. But the music, while not as iconic, is still a joy, arguably better than RHPS's offerings, the performances are superb, the presentation is enthralling, and the to-this-day-timely themes and eerily prescient symbolism are fascinating to behold. The moment I finished it I jumped to the beginning and watched it again, ultimately viewing it a total of five times within the week I discovered it.It's very niche, certainly not a film for everyone, but to dismiss it on the grounds that it doesn't hold up as a sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show is to deny yourself the opportunity to watch a wonderfully, woefully forgotten musical that you just might love. Take it from a Shock Treatment denier: it's fabulous being over manipulated on the Dentonvale trail. And even if you find it worse than the old show, in the old show we didn't have a convertible.

Excellent DVD package for Shock Treatment fans
If you are a fan of Shock Treatment, this DVD is the one you want. It has a few documentaries full of information and a wonderful commentary track as well. The color and over all image is fantastic, especially for those of us used to the old VHS release. Also, the sound quality is excellent.A reviewer here said that the commentary should have been "left to professionals". This is a mean thing to say, especially considering that Madman Mike IS a professional in the world of Rocky Horror and Shock Treatment. Mike did a FABULOUS job. So did Bill Brennon for that matter. They give you tons of behind the scenes trivia and insight on the meaning of the movie and its making. I've heard the commentary on many, many DVDs and I've heard horrible ones that were done by directors, actors and other production people. In fact, just listen to the commentary done by Kiara Knightly on one of the Pirates of the Caribbean DVDs and you will think Madman Mike and Bill Brennon are totally professional by comparison.Shock Treatment is very obscure in the scheme of things but it does have some really die hard fans and a "cult within a cult" following with Rocky Horror fans. Shock Treatment was WAY ahead of its time on many levels, especially predicting the direction that reality TV would go. There's not much reality in reality TV, and this movie sort of knew that before it happened. This movie isn't for everyone. But for fans, its a long awaited and fantastic presentation and I can't recommend this DVD enough.

This movie is great! I truly recognize it as a sequel to Rocky Horror along with Revenge of the Old Queen. The story is a bit muddled but as long as one is sober it's not difficult to understand. Despite a different cast this still preserves the legacy of cult classic RHPS. I personally believe the music is better than Rocky. I appreciate that Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn were in this, however I believe the presence of Little Nell in this film was a grave mistake, she's impossible to understand and annoying. However not even that could bring down the quality of this new cult classic.

Don't watch it as a Rocky Horror sequel
It only ruin the whole experience for you. I confess that when I watched it for the first time, I didn't quite understood the whole idea of the movie. But then Bitchin' In The Kitchen sticked into my mind so hard, so I had to watch it all over again. As a huge Rocky Horror fan, I decided to free my mind this time. So I did it, and the experience was so much better this time. Now I'm a huge Shock Treatment fan too.So, open your mind and enjoy this amazing journey!

Region B Only.
Had to buy a Blu-ray player from the UK, but it was totally worth it! Unfortunately this movie is not available in region A. I've never seen it look so good though! I haven't even scratched the surface yet on the bonus material and I'm just in love with the resolution on it and the audio mixing is perfect!

My favourite movie of all time
I'm a sucker for underappreciated sequels. And this one is top for me. So ahead of it's time. Doesnt really have much of anything to do with rocky horror even though its technically a sequel but man this movie delivers. Flawed, yes. It's not perfect. But I love it I've watched it so many times and still laugh at the dark comedy.

Dammit Janet
An eerily accurate representation of how people are so consumed with what is on the television but done so in song form. It’s got catchy songs that will get stuck in your head and memorable characters. Janet 2.0 is the worse but I guess Susan Sarandon hit it big in the 1980s and couldn’t be bothered with doing this movie.

A incisive satire years ahead of its time.
A much-maligned and misunderstood satire of television, consumerism and too-perfect communities, Richard O'Brien's follow-up to The Rocky Horror Picture Show had a very troubled history.Originally intended as a direct sequel to Rocky, entitled Rocky Horror Shows His Heels, the original script was pretty-much unfilmable, and each subsequent draft moved further away from O'Brien's original intent and ended up as a satire. The film features Brad & Janet (played this time by Cliff DeYoung & Jessica Harper) several years after the events of Rocky and their marriage is headed directly for the rocks. Their local television station, DTV, - owned by the mysterious Farley Flavors) has them appear on game-show Marriage Maze and the result is that Brad is committed to an asylum whilst Janet is groomed for super-stardom.Shock Treatment was a box-office disaster when originally released - it made it on to video, where it started to gain something of a cult following. The years that followed saw the rise of reality television, where members of the public could be plucked from nowhere and gain stardom almost overnight. O'Brien's screenplay predicted this now-omnipresent aspect of society more than a decade before it started happening. Frank-N-Furter's line from Rocky - "I made you, and I can BREAK you just as easily!" - is an eerie precursor for not only the events in Shock Treatment, but also for the stars/victims of reality television.Satire aside, the film has surreal, almost claustrophobic feel to it, as everything was shot in the studio to save money (no location work at all) and this just adds to the bizarre atmosphere of the piece. There are some great, witty lines in O'Brien's screenplay, with the cast delivering them with gusto and the songs - a number of them apparently intended for Rocky Horror Shows His Heels - are even better than those in Rocky, showing O'Brien's maturing style, weaving humour, clever wordplay, satire and drama together. There are musical motifs that tie several songs together and In My Own Way, dealing with the changing nature of love is a heartbreaking stand-out.Cliff De Young plays Brad as something of a buffoon, but there is a good reason for this, as he needed to clearly differentiate Brad from his dual role as Farley Flavors. Jessica Harper's take on Janet is radically different from Susan Sarandon's, and Harper's transition from timid and reserved to arrogant and intoxicated on her own hype is extremely plausible. O'Brien and Pat Quinn once again play brother & sister with a decidedly "close" relationship and Barry Humphries goes OTT as a Viennese psychiatrist who has a shady past. Charles Gray returns in a role similar to, but different from, The Criminologist in Rocky - he also gets the funniest lines, too.Shock Treatment may not appeal to everyone - those not around when the film was released will struggle to get past some of the satirical elements that are firmly rooted in late seventies/early eighties television - but those who can appreciate what Richard O'Brien was trying to do when addressing the fleeting nature of fame and celebrity will find much to enjoy. Oh, and the songs are great, too.

Divertida

Richard O'Brien at his best! another Cult classic spun off of RHPS. For new fans Keep an Open Mind.
I have not received it yet. But I am going to review on my experience watching the movie itself. First off you have to realize it's Richard O'Brien were talking about here. He wrote RHPS and Shock Treatment. Songs and Script etc. So you can possibly image how messed up it's going to be, and how much work went into it. Not that it's a bad thing, he has a very interesting sense of humor and sense of style aka. like Tim Burton. Richard O'Brien is a theatre/musical extraordinaire. You have to like the movie based on what it stands for, and what makes you want to watch it. If you watch it like movies nowadays are watched you won't get the value of it. It's up for interpretation like Donnie Darko was. Like RHPS you have to like it for what it's all about. Their talented actors. But It's Richard O'Brien, all things wacky, trendy, and borderline sociopathic(in a non creepy way). It's a cult like any other and if your going to try this out for the first time you have to keep an open mind.
