Does this unit use a Brushless motor

Yep! In fact, we went to great lengths to design our own proprietary brushless motor that could meet our power requirements (for pro-grade percussion massage) while still fitting within the small form factor of the Talon Gun. Thanks!

Can you apply ointment with it?

That's a good question. We've never tried it, but don't see why you couldn't. The ball head attachment is closed-cell foam, so there shouldn't be any problem with placing a small amount of ointment to the head. However, you will want to make sure that you don't get any ointment on the shaft of the massage head or the piston (massage head receptacle) because it could break down the lubricant and affect the massage gun performance over time.

I don't notice any difference between the 4 speeds. They all sound and feel exactly the same is that normal?

When you change between speeds the number of lights at the end of the handle should change, 1 light lowest speed, 4 lights highest speed, and you'll definitely notice a difference. I use the lowest speed a lot, but have found some benefits to the higher speeds as well, but for shorter, quicker durations.
