Summer of '42

I read the book when it it first came out and recently decided to read it again. I still found it a superb read. Raucher's writing is so good, a wonderful balance of fun and pathos capturing a time of innocence and discovery against a background that would change many people's lives forever. Nostalgic but not self-pitying.

This the third time to read this book still enjoyable and have fond memories of the movie that was made from this book.

Amusing and sad read. Saw the film in my teens (possibly shouldn't have) and found it funny at the time. It's well written and thoughtful.

A story that has a haunting quality.

i bought this book based on the premise that it was a comic but moving coming of age story. I struggled throughout the book as I found it dull, totally unfunny and I couldn't care less about the characters. I could not manage to finish it. Wasted purchase, it is going straight to a garage sale.
