Judging by the pictures this looks to be of a cheap construction. What are the opinions on it quality?

This is a very strong construction, it is a larger gauge plastic than most plastic box's. The only thing I would say about it is, when processing onions remove the two outer layers before chopping them with this device.

Can you buy more bits like a slicer square?

I was so disappointed with this so called food chopper that I threw it away. It wasn’t even capable of chopping through a boiled egg so I wouldn’t recommend any other choppers associated with it.

What is the blade surface area?

There are 3 different size chopping blades which are about 6cm square.

It will cut lettuce however the general look of it will be like “pulled lettuce” rather than “cut lettuce “ The chopper is great to chop potato, onion, tomato , cucumber and too many other fruit and veg
