Boosts clarity and breaks down muck—natural bacteria blend that keeps tanks clean without chemicals.
Used this in a 120L community tank with substrate buildup and cloudy water after a heavy feed week. Dosed as directed—saw visible clarity improvement within 48 hours. No smell, no foaming, and no impact on fish or shrimp. It’s a live bacteria blend, so it works over time—ideal for tanks with detritus, uneaten food, or organic waste. I’ve used it post-water change and during filter resets—helps stabilise things without harsh chemicals. Also handy for fry tanks or setups with limited flow where gunk builds up fast. 🔍 Specs & Features Size: 250ml bottle Type: Natural bio-clarifier (live bacteria) Use: Freshwater, saltwater, planted tanks Function: Breaks down sludge, detritus, and organic waste Compatibility: Safe for fish, shrimp, snails, and plants Application: Dose directly—no mixing or prep 🧪 Performance Clarity Boost: Noticeable within 1–2 days Waste Breakdown: Helps reduce sludge and organics Smell: Neutral—no chemical stink Shelf Life: Long—store cool and sealed 👍 Pros ✅ Natural bacteria—no harsh chemicals ✅ Works in fresh and saltwater ✅ Safe for all tank inhabitants ✅ Helps stabilise bio-load after changes ✅ Easy dosing—no faff 👎 Cons ❌ Not instant—takes time to work ❌ Needs stable temp and flow to activate ❌ Doesn’t replace water changes—supplements them ❌ Shake before use—can settle 🧭 Personal Verdict If you want a clean, natural way to boost clarity and reduce sludge without stressing your tank, Seachem Pristine earns its spot. A Must-Have for High Bioload or Planted Tanks!
I’ve been using Seachem Pristine in my 45L (50x30x30cm) fully planted tank, and the difference in water quality and maintenance is night and day. Why I recommend it: Manages Heavy Bioload: My tank has a high bioload, and keeping up with waste can be a challenge in a smaller volume of water. This product does a fantastic job of breaking down excess food, waste, and detritus. Reduced Sludge: Since I started using this, I’ve noticed a significant decrease in "sludge" buildup in the substrate and filter. It keeps the tank looking much cleaner between water changes. Perfect for Planted Tanks: In a heavily planted setup, organic waste can easily get trapped in the carpet or stems. Pristine helps degrade that organic matter naturally, which prevents it from fueling algae growth. Crystal Clear Results: It works alongside my filtration to keep the water polished and clear. It’s now a staple in my maintenance routine. If you have a busy tank or a lot of plants, this is a lifesaver for keeping your ecosystem balanced and your water sparkling.

Clears up water fast, smells strong but it works
Pristine really helps boost bacteria and reduce gunk in the water. I used this after a small ammonia spike and within two days the tank looked way clearer and got rid of the ammonia levels, It smells like sulphur when dosing, which is normal but strong. Pairing this with Stability works well, especially in planted tanks. Just shake it hard before use. ✔ Pros: • Improves water clarity quickly • Supports beneficial bacteria • Good for post-clean or filter change ❌ Cons: • Smell is intense • Needs regular use to keep results Tip: Dose it at night with the lights off, fish seem calmer and the smell fades faster.

A good product but it’s not immediate and will only work if your tank is balanced
This isn’t a magical elixir to a poorly maintained tanks, and it doesn’t claim to be. It does take a few weeks for the benefits to show but they do show as the bacteria needs time to colonise in the tank. I used to have to clean my glass weekly due to detritus and algae build up. Now after about a month of use that build up has vertically gone. Only knocking off 1 star as it is expensive but I will continue to use. Seachem products work and yes they are on the higher price point but in the long run their products are worth it IMO.

WHOA! So happy with this product. And all of Seachem products!! This pristine is amazing! I overdosed Seachem Stability when I started my tank. It wasn't realy intentional. It was just because the dose for a 5 gallon is 1.25ml which is 1/4 a cap of Stability. I put it in more like 1/2 cap because. Well, I have a betta. Betta's have small bioloads. So the bacteria was just accumulating way faster than ammonia and nitrite were accumulating....this caused a very very thick biofilm. And before my cycle caught up with the bacteria....i was dealing with a very thick biofilm. I knew it would go away as my cycle progressed. And it did. However, that biofilm fell to the gravel as snow. So when I would do water changes that would get kicked up....just fly around the tank....it was bad. So I added pristine. I had talked to Seachem and they told me to wait on adding Pristine until my nitrifying bacteria were established. I waited. Then I added pristine. The bacteria went to work....but man oh man i could literally see the bacteria eating away at the biofilm sediment, my entire tank went hazy....almost like a ribbon of fog was running through it. This was very very worrisome. Pristine actually made my tank cloudy at first....it took about 48 hours to see results. i added it on a friday morning....and it wasn't until sunday night i came home and saw the results. WHOA....it's CLEAR! I am SO HAPPY!!!!! part of me really wanted to think i had screwed something up. I just had this horribly dread i was going to have to do a 100% water change and start over....but that wasn't the case! I just needed to be patient. I am so impressed!!!! I love Seachem. And all of their products. I trust them 100%. And their customer service is amazing! If you need anything just email them from their website. I LOVE PRISTINE!!! UPDATE: So i am still happy with this product. Gravel vacuuming is definitely easier. But i like to give my mystery snail zucchini. I typically leave a single piece in the tank for 24 hours before removing it....i'll remove it and not add another piece for another 24 hours or so...the first time i did this after I'd established the Pristine bacteria into my tank...i went to bed with an absolutely crystal clear aquarium. the next morning i woke up and it was super cloudy! it was obviously a bacterial bloom. and i immediately suspected the pristine reacting to the zucchini. so i emailed Seachem and explained what was going on....and they wrote back and told me that it was indeed the zucchini. i've removed the zucchini. but it's been 36 hours and a 50% water change and the bloom is just now subsiding. i am not going to downgrade my review....zucchini is organic and that is exactly what this product is supposed to do. break down organics. so if you're going to be throwing in large amounts of fresh veggies for snails or invertebrates i would just keep this in mind. i think i'll still feed my snail veggies...but it will not stay in the tank for more than a couple of hours.
