Hilarious and high energy, Freak is Leguizamo's Emmy winning semi-falsified, one-man stand-up performance. Alternately funny, raunchy and poignant, FREAK spotlights Leguizamo's gift for storytelling as he effortlessly slips in and out of a wide range of characters from his dysfunctional childhood in Queens, New York.

Baring His Soul
This performance is extraordinary. John reels you in to a special peek into his soul and he is a rollercoaster of raw humanity. This performance made me fall in love with him.

Great but edited
I had the pleasure of seeing this show live on Broadway when i was 13 and have NEVER forgotten it, it was that memorable. This was easily a 5 star performance and absolutely hilarious from beginning to end. That is why it pains me to say that after waiting 13 years for the public release of this DVD to find that all the copyrighted music had be replaced with cheesy knock offs and that some of the best bits had been cut, such as John dancing and singing his kid show themes before breaking the antenna to his fathers Wood console (he sang the themes to underdog and spiderman). It looks like the Companies that distributed this release did not want to fork over the funds to pay for minute copyright royalties for a few seconds of music, but that's just my speculation, not a known fact.Aside from that, this is a great addition to any fan of the multi-talented John Leguizamo and a must see, I recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor. Just remember, those of you who remember the original HBO Broadcasting or had the pleasure of seeing this in person like myself, you will be a tab upset with the edits and cuts and feel slightly jipped, hints the 4 star rating. I only wish everyone had seen the show I remember so fondly from my youth.

Different from the usual
I really enjoyed this DVD because it was not what you usually expect from a sand-up performance. It was a mix of that and a play...a one-man drama. I'm a huge fan of story-teling and anything of an (auto)biographical nature, so mixing that with stand-up was ideal for me. However, I do think the storyline was more interesting than the jokes were funny. With that said, if you are in this strictly for the jokes you may be disappointed depending on your humor. Also, as to be expected, there's quite a bit of Spanglish, so if you don't have a little bit of Spanish in your vocabulary, you may miss some things here and there.Bottom line: If you like autobiographical content and humor, you'll love this. Looking for a night in for some heavy laughs, skip this. Comedy collectors: grab this and a little variety to your collection!

A bittersweet show
I rate this show 5 stars whether it is edited or not. John Leguizamo is an amazing performer from his voice to the wild antics he performs on stage. He keeps you interested and riveted throughout because he is a great story teller. There is no one else like him out there. Although I gave it 5 stars I wanted to rate it lower. The music has been edited and some has been changed completely. Some of the better bits were cut short due to the fact that whoeverer bought the rights didn't bother to pay for these bits. A scene with his brother was removed and now gets skipped, the whole section seems off due to the fact that it is a very abrupt edit. I hope that some day this dvd is brought without any edits and I would more than glad pay for it again. So if you don't mind edits this is still an awesome performance by a magnificent performer.

Best one man show by John L.
I remember my first time watching this on HBO way back when it had released. It's one of the most memorable performances from John Leguizamo. I was super happy to find it digitally in Amazon.
