CD great, live is even better!
Having had the chance to see Emika perform selections from DVA, the live performances are very dynamic and the album makes a good second-best if you can't get to see her in person in my opinion. Not often seen in the UK, the USA, Poland, France and Russia seem to be her main haunts. Her stage act is heavily choreographed as well now for this second album, something not obvious from the CD. Her vinyl record album version which has a double-sided sleeve seems to be in demand for autographing.I received a free copy of the CD but not in return for writing this review.

A Big Step Forward
I was more than a little bewitched by Emika's eponymous 2011 debut.(Truth-be-told I remain somewhat intoxicated by its dark charms).Take-two finds her exploring not dissimilar territory but thereis greater ambition here in a sonic palette which demonstratesnot only the legacy of her classical musical education but herability to employ what she has learned to create electronic soundscapesof considerable depth, complexity and disturbing beauty. (The stunningintroductory piece 'Hush - Interlude' with its lush string arrangementand the haunting voice of Michaela Sru quite took my breath away!)There are a generous fifteen tracks in the set. From the powerful throbbingbeats of 'Young Minds'; through the quasi-Arabic bloops and blips of 'SheBeats', with its deadpan Miss Kittin-ish vocals; the dreamy subterranean melodyof 'Primary Colours' (perhaps the project's finest moment) and the delightful'Searching' (wherein Ms Emika comes as close as she has so-far in creatingsomething approximating a pop song and a jolly good one too!) we are struckby her intuitive ability to keep both our minds and emotions fully engaged.'DVA' represents a big step forward in Emika's musical journey. Bravo indeed!Highly Recommended.

A young artist with talent but still struggling to find her voice
A young artist with talent but still struggling to find her voice. There are some songs where she shows real brilliance and depth with post effects uses her voice as an instrument as she did in wicked Game and Primary Colours. Then there are other songs with what can only be described as a techno disco which is shallow and trite. There are a number of songs that also show a classical base but I don't know enough to attribute that to her or just a very savvy arranger. Having said that though, she is defintely an artist to watch and see how she matures.

Wow...
If you've played Sleeping Dogs you've probably heard 'Drop the Other' by Emika on their radio stations. This is how I figured out about Emika. And buying that game was well worth finding this artist alone.Emika says in one of her interviews "I don't like to put my music in a category because I don't really know what the categories mean." She proves that music doesn't need a category... This album is a perfect example of 'something different' and it is absolutely beautiful. If you are a fan of almost any type of electronic music, please give this a try.
