Absolutely brilliant for the price!
I was told by my physiotherapist to get a saddle seat, but not to buy one of the really expensive ones. So after looking around for a week or so I decided on this one based on the reviews and price.I'm a tall guy, so I was unsure if it would be high enough for me. But it definitely is. I'm about 6Ft 1 and it goes higher than I need it to.It does encourage you to sit with a straight back, but it doesn't do it for you. You still have to consciously keep your back straight, but it's much easier on one of these stools than it is in a normal office chair.I was surprised at how easy it was to put together, and how sturdy it is as well! The gas lift is great. I wouldn't recommend rolling around on it too much, because I would imagine the wheels might not last too long. But if you're just using it at your desk, or on a hard, smooth surface then it's great.Unfortunately I have to agree with what the other men have said though. My physiotherapist told me the reason these stools are so good is because it allows you to sit with your hips forward. But this can get quite uncomfortable if you're a man on this stool. The front really does point up and you feel quite squashed, which can make you stop pushing your hips forward for some relief. But if you're on a budget, I'd recommend this for sure. My back pain during my working day has improved dramatically thanks to sitting with my back straight. It's just evening times that my pain comes back because I don't use this chair for anything else!

Excellent value
I was really impressed with this, easily put together, comfortable, maneouvreable, lightweight and adjustable. It makes you sit up straight and prevents you from crossing your legs, so you tend to sit with knees 45 degrees apart and feet firmly on the ground. On recommendation from my physio I also use it as a guitar stool, for which it is perfect, preventing me from sitting lopsided. However, like kneeling stools it is probably optimistic to think of sitting on it all day, so the ideal solution might be to have this and a kneeling stool and swap regularly. I strongly recommend the rocker kneeling stool as it creates a kind of back massage effect. (NB. a kneeling stool is no good for guitar playing!)I tend to slightly agree with the guy that says this doesn't suit the male physique that much, but more because it can get a bit hot around the groin. If men can ride horses they can sit on this!

You get what you pay for.
Budget take on a saddle stool. Arrived assembled, so in a massive box! It's definitely a lower-end item: the foam feels like it'll compress over time, the ergonomics aren't ideal (it cuts off the backs of your thighs a little). Where the pleather is stapled onto the bottom, two staples have come off, which lends me to believe this won't be a long-term solution. However, it's certainly reasonably-priced as far as these things go, and it'll probably last long enough for us to be able to afford a better build version.Update 21/07/15 from original review in 12/14: I've added a star as this stool has actually persevered. No other staples have come free and I suppose we've both learned to tolerate the hard bits. It continues to be a very back-friendly seating option and has completely replaced our desk chair; I often drag it into the kitchen for prep work, as well.

Fantastic budget option
I bought this stool after being advised to get a saddle stool by my surgeon, following an operation on my back.Initially I nearly 'fell off my stool' when I saw that you can pay over £500 for a similar stool with a leather seat! This is a fantastic budget version. It was very easy to assemble, and it is of good construction for the price - it could probably use a seat cover to protect the vinyl, as I imagine it's probably not going to be very hard wearing......but for a tenth of the price of leather you cannot go wrong.I'm not sure that this seat would be very comfortable for a man........ It does make you get up every so often for a walk around, as your bum does go a bit numb after 20 mins or so, but that's not a negative as I am not supposed to sit for longer than that without a break anyway. Another point for the girls..... You cannot really wear a shortish or tight fitting dress/skirt as you have to sit 'astride' the seat - it is not so great for low cut, tight jeans either! But this would be true of any saddle stool.Overall a great buy, the stool keeps your back in the correct positon and makes you remember to get up for a break from sitting. I am thinking of getting another to sit on at home.

Goodbye office chair - well for a year
My office chair died so I was looking round for a new one when I came across this.As I have a sore lower back I thought I would give it a try - particularly as it it not expensive in comparison with an office chair. It makes me sit up straight and doesn't aggravate my back.I have a knee hole desk and and it is quite tight due to the way it makes you sit ie your legs are rather straddled. Well it is called a saddle stool.Another good thing about it is that it does not have a back so perceptually takes up less room.Seems pretty sturdy as well.My other half (male) is not quite sure .. Apparently it reaches the parts other stools don't ....Updated March 2015 By March 2015 the stool seat has started to fall apart and it no longer stays up.

Fit for Purpose.
This chair is fit for purpose. My only dislike is that it could do with additional padding on the seat as this would increase sitting time. I will however get a sheep skin or other cover for it.Easy enough to put together and use. I would say for the person whoes castors snapped off that they may not have been pressed in far enough as they did initially appear to be in but should click right in to be flush.
