Arguably Hollywood’s premier mismatched cops franchise, the four Lethal Weapon movies are gathered together in high definition for the first time, in this highly entertaining, action-packed boxset. The mismatched cops here? That’d be livewire Riggs, played by Mel Gibson, and straight-down-the-line, edging closer to retirement Murtaugh, played by Danny Glover. The pair have a terrific chemistry together, and by the end of the fourth film, the franchise has also brought in the likes of Joss Ackland, Patsy Kensit, Rene Russo, Joe Pesci and Chris Rock, amongst others. The best Lethal Weapon film? That’d be the first, though, when Riggs really does feel like an unpredictable character on the edge. That’s softened as the franchise moves on, where it favours comedy over such elements of drama. But it’s not a bad transition, and the movies remain just as enjoyable. For when the Lethal Weapon films do comedy, it really works. Just look at the scene with the bomb attached to the toilet in Lethal Weapon 2 . It’s a strong collection of films, each of which has benefited from a high definition upgrade. Plus, there’s the bonus of an added disc of bonus features to get your teeth into, too. -- Jon Foster Box set containing all four films from the popular 'Lethal Weapon' series. In 'Lethal Weapon' (1987), Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) is a family man cop who is about to turn fifty. Cautious by nature, he is less than happy to be paired with Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) when he is assigned to investigate Californian drug baron 'The General' (Mitchell Ryan). Following the death of his wife, Riggs has become a manic loner who no longer cares whether he lives or dies - an approach which causes more than a few problems as he and Murtaugh attempt to bring the General to justice. In 'Lethal Weapon 2' (1989), Riggs (Gibson) and his partner Murtaugh (Glover) once again tackle the evils of drug smuggling, this time coming up against a South African syndicate whose kingpins are protected by diplomatic immunity. In 'Lethal Weapon 3' (1992), Detectives Murtaugh (Glover) and Riggs (Gibson) are both demoted after triggering a car bomb in a multi-storey car park, but they are soon reinstated after uncovering a network - run by an ex-cop - which is smuggling weapons out of a police ammunition dump. Finally, in 'Lethal Weapon 4' (1998), mismatched cops Riggs (Gibson) and Murtaugh (Glover) team up for a fourth time to foil an immigrant smuggling racket, run by a ruthless Asian Triad leader (Jet Li). Joe Pesci also returns as Leo Getz, the cops' cowardly informant whilst Rene Russo leavens the boys with toys atmosphere as risk-taking detective Lorna Cole. Review: Ultimate Buddy Cop GOAT - Lethal Weapon: The Complete Collection on Blu-ray is a brilliant boxset that pulls together all four films in one tidy, great-value package. The upgrade to Blu-ray really helps these action classics shine, with cleaner visuals and stronger audio than older DVD releases. Lethal Weapon (1987) – The original film still feels sharp and emotional. Mel Gibson’s unpredictable, damaged Riggs paired with Danny Glover’s steady, world-weary Murtaugh is what makes this movie special. The action scenes, dark humour and Christmas setting all hold up very well, and the Blu-ray transfer gives the film a surprisingly fresh look for its age. Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) – This is often the fan favourite, and it’s easy to see why. The chemistry between Riggs and Murtaugh really clicks here, with a perfect mix of big action, tension and laughs. The plot around South African diplomats adds stakes, and the emotional payoff is still powerful. On Blu-ray, the nighttime and action sequences are much clearer than on older versions. Lethal Weapon 3 (1992) – The third film leans more into buddy-cop humour without losing the heart. Rene Russo is a great addition, and the dynamic between the three leads is a lot of fun. The story around stolen police weapons keeps things moving, and the explosions and set pieces look great in HD. Lethal Weapon 4 (1998) – The final film feels bigger and more modern, with Jet Li as a memorable villain and Chris Rock adding extra comedy. It wraps up the journey of the characters nicely and gives a sense of family and closure, which is satisfying if you watch them in order. As a boxset, this collection works really well. It’s region-free, so there are no playback issues, and having all four films together makes it very easy to binge the whole series or dip into your favourite. Picture and sound quality are consistently good across the discs, and the set offers excellent value compared to buying the films individually. Overall, this is a fantastic choice for anyone who loves ’80s and ’90s action, buddy-cop films, or just wants a solid collection of rewatchable movies in one convenient Blu-ray box. Review: The price and quick delivery keep it up - 10 out 10 the man who delivered my order. Great films

Absolutely fantastic quadrilogy
I loved these films so much I just couldn't resist getting them on DVD, even though they do see airtime on terrestrial TV. I was very pleased to find 1-3 were "Director's Cut" and the snippet of extra film I had seen only once before from the original, I got to see in context. The first film 'forces' Riggs and Murtaugh together as partners, the unlikely pairing finding getting along rather difficult. As they progress through the investigation. film and indeed series their bonding becomes further, until such a point distrust has become trust, even if they don't appreciate it for some time. The cast also utilises Gary Busey very well, and the beauty of the film is there are a lot of terrific characters no matter how central or secondary. The latter scenes are excellent, remind me of Die Hard in its action packed finale The sequel sees a war between police and criminals hiding behind their diplomatic credentials. It becomes increasingly personal, and reveals a lot more about our central characters which you may note from the first film if you look closely. It is action packed, funny and brilliantly scripted. Joe Pesci is introduced and becomes a third central character for this and the rest of the series. The only question I'm left pondering is how they can shoot so many people with diplomatic immunity and get away with it! The third is perhaps my favourite, the very moving scenes when Murtaugh finds law enforcement is a lot closer to home than he'd like. He then sets out to right wrongs, a rather more personal vendetta than we've seen before. The film brings in yet another central character in Rene Russo without overburdening the film with too many leads, as other films and comedy series can do. The bad guys as usual are great, love to hate them types. This film has a lot more feeling and emotion to it than perhaps the previous two had even looked at. The final film suffered from the time elapsed since the previous film. 1987, 1989, 1992 and then 1998 before the quadrilogy ran its course. They did manage to retain the original cast, and the plot wasn't too bad, but this is the weaker link of the four and further evidence that series need to be sustained and not someone decide to go back and make another years later. Chris Rock is introduced as a new character, the plot meanders a bit and something doesn't quite click. Maybe it tries too hard, maybe. As Riggs has now become a has-been in the context of being the "lethal weapon" of the title, it is rather a wind-down film reliant on elements it doesn't deliver. Jet Li as the bad guy is way too wooden for me, a lot doesn't add up, and please someone tell me why, when a car is pushing you onto a level crossing in front of a train, you don't simply ACCELERATE?!?!?!? I've given it five stars, it is a thoroughly excellent collection even if the last film might only get a 3.5 to 4.0 rating. Own it now.

HD Version...it's been revoked
Lethal Weapon. I’m a huge fan of the Lethal Weapons film series and 80’s action movies in general and decided to buy the series on Blu Ray after my DVD collection got lost. The story is the standard buddy cop formula with the Good and always about to retire cop, Murtaugh who gets teamed up with a loose canon and the always unpredictable Riggs. They take down the bad guys in over the top action scenes that many times will leave you rolling your eyes while at the same time enjoying every second of it. Not a series of films that takes it self too seriously and that’s a good thing! The first film is about taking down a drug ring in LA all while Murtaugh reluctantly teams up with Riggs who he quickly finds out longs for death. However, they work together and become friends by the end. The second and arguably the best one of the series and sees our duo take down a corrupt South African diplomat who is smuggling drugs into the US. It is good to see a second movie try to be something else rather then just remake the first movie that many films from that era did (Ghostbusters 2 for example) The third film sees the duo once again team up to take on a gang who are smuggling ‘cop killer’ bullets and it’s up to Riggs and Murtaugh to once again save the day in a fantastic finale. And last and maybe least is the fourth entry in which the Riggs and Murtaugh take on the Chinese Cartel who are forging money but for what reason? The movie was filmed in 1998 and during that time, due to the handing over of Hong Kong, many movies had a Chinese influence from this to Rush Hour. Sort of a movie of its time. It is the weakest entry for me many due to Chris Rock who is annoying in this film (Yet I like his stand up) and Joe Pesci who is a little over the top at times. Still a good movie but after watching the other three, this is certainly the weakest. There is a bonus disk but truth be told, I never watch it so can’t really give an opinion on it. However, the extra price for the Blu Ray version is not justifiable I’m sad to say. The quality of the first three movies is not improved at all with the first one being even more fuzzy and blurry then I remember. The last film looks pretty good but it is certainly not much better then the DVD versions. Also I think they are the standard versions whereas the DVD set I had included extra scenes. Very disappointed by that. So would I recommend these movies? Well, if it was a review of just the movies then I would give it 5 stars but this box set is not worth the extra money over the standard DVD versions. However, if you have not seen these movies yet then you really should if you like action movies.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE??????
This is a fantastic box set of four of the best movies - the first one introduces the characters and they just get better with age!! The original good cop, bad cop movies! Brilliant....and starring Mel Gibson, what's not to like????

Great value for 3 top action films (and a not so good 4th one)
This is a very good collection for fans of the Lethal Weapon Series. The 1st two films are brilliant 'Buddy Cop' movies from the 80's, and the Interplay between Mel Gibson and Danny Glover really adds to the whole thing. On top of which both characters are keenly observed and have interesting personal lives of their own. The villains are memorable, even if there schemes are not, and overall you have 2 very entertaining films. The third film changed the formula a little to tap into the 90’s wisecracking action genre, so the explosions are more dramatic, the jokes are sillier and more obvious, and a female is drafted onto the team, all of these freshen up the series somewhat and make what is probably my favourite film of the series. The forth film is pretty rubbish, although Jet Li does liven things up a bit in his scenes, and Joe Pesci is given one chance to shine as the best actor in the series with his friendly frog speech. The extras across all 4 discs are interesting and include commentaries from Richard Donner which I found to be entertaining and enlightening, and the 5th disc contains a greater wealth of extra information about the series as a whole which most fans will enjoy. Overall this was great value for money and I recommend it highly

For a long time the lethal weapon films have been available on dvd/blu-ray on region 1 & 2 devoid of special features be it theatrical or director's cut.
