Keeping Alpacas: Secrets from the field Paperback – January 23, 2013

This book was well written, very informative and has tons of references. My only regret is that I wish it was longer. It was one of the few books on Alpacas that I have really enjoyed reading.

Given the two previous reviews, which are glowing, and the price of this tiny little booklet, I was quite disappointed. I did not find this book as helpful as I had hoped. Any time the author discussed medicating her alpacas, she never talks about dosages. The book is essentially a published version of her diary as she muddles her way through a year of alpaca ownership. The only helpful bit was about breeding. I was hoping to get more information about how to select good animals for starting your herd, how to decide which to breed, etc. Also, oddly, a topuc never discussed was shearing. I mean, not at all! Isn't fiber pretty much THE reason for having alpacas in the first place? I don't think this book was at all worth the price of $21 some odd dollars.

This book tells every aspect of owning alpacas, including all the medical care and all the responsibility of the owners. It is a very truthful and very good book.

I found this book to be an interesting window into the life of an alpaca keeper. Thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring.

I like the information the author gives and it has given me more insight to how to take care of alpacas. I can't wait to start my herd.

This book is FULL of false information. It's also written as a diary. I would give it zero stars if I could. There is no general lay out such a health, feeding, shelter, just the authors interaction on a given day.

Good reading with all necessary information to have alpacas as pets.

Even though lots of useful information was provided and fairly clear picture of farming alpacas was displayed, there were areas where information was vague, repetition occurred and time lines seemed to jump around leaving the reader confused. Her love of alpacas and their various personalities came across strongly.

This was a gift for my wife to start the journey towards owning these lovely animals. Good reading

I loved reading this diary account of keeping and caring for Alpacas. It gives you an insight into the day to day care throughout the seasons. Very beneficial for new Alpaca keepers.

Easy to read book containing lots of basic information for the novice Alpaca owner. Useful starting place for those choosing Alpacas as pets or looking to start a small farm.
