Does this mat offer good sound absorption? I'm in a 2nd floor flat and don't want to annoy downstairs?

I think that yes, it has a very good density, more than the others mats. Definitely, I think it absorbs sounds very well.

Forgot to ask....is it ok to use with trainers?

Yes - fine with trainers but the mat is quite thick and soft. So you might see an imprint of the trainer n the mat that will quickly fade. It's not really designed for jumping on with trainers. Moe for Yoga, Pilates, stretching, floor work etc (with or without trainers)

Does this mat have a strong smell?

It has a distinct I am new Foam smell, but after a few weeks it was gone. I would not say strong, seems too strong a word. (sorry the pun)I will say this, it is incredibly thick, firm lush. I love it, so would recommend it.

What is the best product to use to cleanse/sanitise this mat please?

Hi, I use baby wet wipes because they're easy to put in your kit bag. If just for home use, warm soapy water on a flannel ( well wrung out ) will do the job but make sure the mat is dry before rolling. Good luck.
