Is this good for a complete beginner? My friend gave me a 3mm metal hook to try and I'm finding it difficult to use.

They are very comfortable to use, much more so than metal hooks. However if you are a complete beginner a 3mm hook is probably too small to start with. In the UK most crochet projects using double knit weight wool/yarn (the most common weight of yarn) use a 4mm or a 4.5mm hook. So I would recommend you get a Clover Amour hook in either of those 2 sizes rather than the 5mm here. I'd also recommend using Youtube tutorials to learn the crochet basics, you can go at your own pace, pause, rewind. Good luck, it's a really fun and addictive skill to have.

Several people have mentioned that these hooks arE better than all metal hooks but are they better than the knit pro crochet hooks. Thank you.

I think these are the best crochet hooks on the market. Found the hook on the Knitpro too rounded and quite difficult to use with some projects.
