Happy With It - update 11 months later
Update June 2015 - it's still burbling away after 11 months. Every three months or so if you notice there is dirt just inside the intake grid (bits of plant matter from leaves in the bowl) blow it out with a few blasts from a compressed air electronics duster. Rating upgraded to 5 stars.Ours has been working fine for about a month. As noted by many reviewers it works when the sun is strong. It isn't a gusher. It burbles pleasantly. We extended the height by means of a cut-off Bic pen barrel and a glue gun. The pump sits in an 8-inch deep, 20-inch-wide plastic container, set in the ground, which we also got on Amazon (Bloem MB1820-42 Milano Planter Bowl, 20-Inch). The panel is at the top of a 6-ft stake and attached with an old Magellan GPS holder, because it's been in the garage for about 4 years and you couldn't just throw it out. The holder is held to the stake with a slightly countersunk wood screw and the solar panel is attached with the GPS suction cup.

Barely works
I bought this despite the poor reviews I read - only because a few people gave good reviews. I built a small (2 feet tall tops) garden fountain for my mom and the water comes out in a trickle. I am positive the spray in the photo is from a tube NOT connected to this solar panel. The solar panel must be EXACTLY facing the sun or nothing works. I tried laying it flat because we have an open yard but it has to be continuously tilted as the sun moves all day long. VERY poor quality and I would not recommend this to anyone.

I have yet to find the best angle. If the sunlight is a little off-axis
The other reviews were correct in that the solar panel needs to be in direct contact with strong sunlight to work. I have yet to find the best angle. If the sunlight is a little off-axis, the pump works in spurts. I bought this to supply a little "fairy garden" water fall. When it is perfectly aligned, the pump works well. I will try to find a way to "channel" the sunlight to the solar panel. Living in Maryland, but still get sun!

Only works well with direct sunlight.
It put out a surprising amount of water, but it needs a lot of direct light to work (I mean aimed directly at the sun). Doesn't work if there is any cloud cover at all. With a little fiddling (attaching a larger solar panel), I'm hoping to get it working in some of the cloudier conditions also. For a decorative fountain, it would be great (with enough sunlight), but I was hoping it would be good enough to keep a turtle pond aerated during the day. It's been pretty cloudy for the last few weeks, so it hasn't ran enough for what I needed. I will try a larger solar panel before I rule it out though.

well worth it. Understand when it runs though
works wonderfully, but ONLY while the sun is fully on it. Find a placement for the solar panel that gets the sun as much as you want to see or hear the fountain run as the two things are one - plenty of sun - plenty of fountain. No sun - no fountain.Other than that, wonderful item, works great, different heads are fun to try for different water spouts and the panel has a nice long cord so that you can move it freely to find the sun.

No holder for solar panel
This is a very small pump, suitable for something like a birdbath. It works well enough, but the solar panel has no means of being mounted. For this reason, I have not yet installed it. I'll need to fabricate some kind of holder and stake setup.

Wow what a surprise pump!
This little pump is worth it's cost! It produces a 1.5' - 2' fountain using the small head and small extension. It produces a stream virtually identical to the one pictured which I found amazing. You almost never get a product that does what it claims at this price! Very happy. The solar panel is not water proof so be sure you put it somewhere where it won't be immersed in water. The pump is quiet at full sunlight. The pump produces spurts of water when almost out of sunlight. Here in Florida this little thing works for the vast majority of the daytime, most days of the year. Great pump!

Don't waste your money!
After 10 mins in the sun, the solar panel began to bubble. After 3 days in the sun, 1/4 of the panel had bubbled. The cell has to be in direct to have a continuous stream & in non direct light it will have an intermittent flow. The fountain says it can be extended to 45 cm, but they don't give you enough pieces to make that so. I tried to find other options to extend the fountain, but nothing fit right. I think you'd have to buy more parts from the company, but I don't want to waste my time or money to so that if the solar cell is going to be bad in a week. I already pulled it out of my pond.Pros: The pump worked as expected for a very small pond.

Works well in direct sun light but no mounting options
The device works as described but as others have mentioned, it does require full and direct sunlight. Even with slight shadowing the pump stops or cycles between on and off. It can move a decent amount of water for an average sized bird bath to keep things fresh which is what I ordered it for.The real problem that I have with this unit is a total lack of mounting options for the solar panel. There is simply no way to mount the thing without some how modifying the panel or connection box on the back of the panel. It would take way to much work to set up some sort of snap/clip combination to have the panel mounted. As it is, it can simply lay on the rim of the bird bath where of course birds will land and disturb the panel, pushing over the edge or into the water. Either of these will cause the pump to stop functioning.I would give it 5 stars if the panel had some way to mount it other wise it performs quite well, better in fact than I was expecting for such a small panel.

Over priced dollar store item. I can not recommend this.
Pay close attention to the details buried at the bottom of page for dimensions; the close up photography and tight crop of images makes this item seem much larger when in reality the pump is tiny.Pros: It does pump small amounts of water up into the air approx. 6 inches but only with very strong direct sunlight (ZERO cloud or haze required to work)Cons: -Very small pump -Cheap solar panel that can't collect enough energy to continue operations if a small cloud passes by. -Water pattern caps are difficult to attach securely and tend to fall off with each pump of water.

only one thing no way to hold solar panel had to make my own ground spike to hold it but for the size and price over all very good

So small
Hopeless unless you want it for a puddle!

great pump for price
It's active only when sunlight hits the solar panel. My pond is an old 16 inch flower pot and I use the pump to send water to the top of a small water feature. It's about the size of matchbox and is surprisingly strong current for the size. Highly recommended.
