Ideal for patchwork
Boy is this messy, but it does a good job at getting a stippled effect when patching render. I bricked up a window, and needed to match my existing render, and this did the job perfectly. It does take a little getting used to, it's important to get the right render mix, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad to do. I'd suggest giving it a try somewhere it doesn't matter to begin with. The tool itself is fairly primitive. The build quality isn't the best, but honestly, it's pretty cheap too. If you were rendering your whole house, it might not last, but for the occasional patchwork, it's more than fine.

Poor substitute for the real thing
Tried a number of mixes from thin to thick. Terribly wasteful on cement dropping most of it onto the floor and the bit that did hit the wall dribbled or bounced off. Scraped it off and bought an air powered gun which was a dream to use giving a fantastic finish. As mentioned on another review it was not of sturdy construction. Mine needed pushing back together as the plastic bearings slid inside the unit presumably in transit.

It did the job
Firstly, I'm basing the 5 stars on price vs. performance. I had a small repair job to do on an outside wall so didn't want to spend a lot of money on something that would be suitable for rendering an entire house. Firstly, it did the job. I did a lot of research on the internet regarding Tyrolean rendering, and it seems a 'sloppy, pourable' mix is the way to go. Based on that I wonder if some of the negative reviews come about because the reviewer used a mix that was too thick? A tip if, like me, you're just looking for something to repair a small area, buy a plasterer's bucket for mixing. I used a smaller bucket and a drill mixer attachment, and ended up wearing rather too much render. Plasterer's mixing buckets are high sided and would have helped enormously. Anyway, I did find that getting the mix right was the biggest problem. Too thick and I ended up with large lumps all over the place and too thin and it just ran down the wall. Once you've got the right balance this tool does a great job, although you don't get much render in it so need to top up regularly so keep the bucket of render nearby. A lot of people have complained that it is too flimsy? Not sure why. I've finished doing the job, thoroughly cleaned it out and it's good and ready to do the next job. It's also a good buy for anyone who likes doing jigsaw puzzles, since the instructions for assembling the tool are virtually non-existent. It did take me a while to work it out, and even when I did I got it wrong. If you put the turning handle on the wrong side, when you turn it, it simply unscrews from the bit inside that flicks the render so you end up with the tool full of render in one hand and a handle in the other. I've also got two washers left??? But, overall good value for money since it's probably saved me a lot of money paying a builder to do it.

The instructions could be a bit more helpful
Took a little practice but got there in the end. I watched a video about a guy putting his drill in place of the winder handle... Yeah, don't do that!

Great for occasional use
This Tyrolean gun is a good value tool and ideal for a DIYer or one off job. I bought it to patch in a small area of replaced render and it did the job well. I don’t think that this would be suitable for a professional as it is made of thin metal and it’s a bit flimsy. The assembly instructions were useless, but after a few minutes, assembly was easily worked out. There were no instructions for how to apply Tyrolean.

Did the job effortlessly.
Cheap with poor reviews we didn’t expect much but so glad we took the risk as it worked a treat. Being smaller and much lighter than a regular builders model it was perfect as my husbands strength isn’t what it used to be. This small inexpensive lightweight gun enabled him to do the cement splattering perfectly with ease, he was delighted. Yes it is very ‘tin can’ thin and lightweight, the plate was difficult to remove at first and did buckle a little but it was easily bent back into shape and from then on proved no problem. After use it was well cleaned out, the comb lightly sprayed with WD40 and it is ready to go again. Great cheap little tool, happy customers.

Item was used and incomplete
My item arrived and it had been used and repackaged- but with bolts and bars missing. The directions need a microscope to read.

Useful for tyrolean repairs
Easy to put together and easy enough to use for small jobs. We had small areas of tyrolean plaster that was coming off in patches and were able to repair it to match with the existing.

Putzwerfer
