FAVORITE
My daughter loves this series and I love that it had REAL photos of things rather than cartoon drawings. This one is by far her favorite. We got the book for her at 13.5 months and with the help of this book she has learned SO many animals and animal sounds now at 15 months. It's amazing how quickly they learn at this age! I will also ask her where certain animals are on the pages and she will try to find them. I'm hoping that will help her focusing skills because her attention span is that of a fly most times. It seems to help. We will even bring it with us to the zoo and match the real animal with the pictures. Great product, durable, wipe-able and educational.

A great purchase
My 11 month old son LOVES this book. At first, I was a bit apprehensive about the amount of photos and the "clutter" that this book contained. My fears were unfounded, however, since my son is a big fan of it. He looks at this book every day now and loves pointing to the various animals (especially the dogs, birds and cats).Pros:-beautiful photos-there's a big variety of animals organized by habitat or age (ie. baby animals, jungle v. farm animals, insects, etc.)-tabs help with page turning and add to the charm of the book-animal sounds and interactive prompts in the book will be useful once your child is a little older and can follow instructions like "Make the noise of your favorite animal"Cons:-There are a lot of photos on each page-This book is not small (but it is made of sturdy pages so a little drool won't hurt it)

Favorite book for teaching toddler animals
I absolutely love these tabbed books from DK. I love how the pictures are life like. I also love that this book is one that will provide many teaching opportunities for years to come. The book even has suggestions of games you can play with your toddler as you read! The pages are sturdy and the book is full of lots of animals to learn about.

It was the only book our toddler liked. So at about 20 months when language development ...
We first bought the "My First Words: Let's Get Talking" book by DK publishing. It was the only book our toddler liked. So at about 20 months when language development was really taking off, we also purchased "My First Busy Home", "My First Animals", "My First Colors" and "My First Farm". All of them are great. I will repeat what another reviewer said, some of the photographs are reused in the books, but not so that you feel like its the same book. The pages are bright, colorful and filled with photographs of real things, not illustrations (that was important to us)! Our toddler's favorites are the Animals and Farm book, followed closely by the Words and Busy Home book. Colors is currently at the bottom of the list.If your toddler is as rough on board books as ours is, I'd recommend reinforcing the spine with packing tape. That's not a fault of these books, just well-used board books in general!I also read someone complain about the Farm book having milk and cheese on the goat and cow pages, but no bacon on the pig page. To clarify, NONE of the animal pages show meat products of farming. There's wool for the sheep page; eggs from chickens and geese; milk and cheese from goats; and milk, cheese and butter from cows. There aren't any lamb chops or steaks shown, so it's consistent- only non-meat products of animal husbandry are shown. I personally don't have a problem with it.

The best baby animals book I’ve seen so far
I really love this book! The book is big which is easy for my baby to change page, and picture is big, too. Moreover, it classified differently kind of animals. This is the best baby animals book I’ve seen so far.

Poor shipping procedures result in damaged books
These books are really nice. What I like most is that they are pictures of real animals, not cartoon animals. However the packaging damaged the tabs. I think if they would have shrink wrapped the books individually it would completely solve this issue. Instead some of the paper coating is peeling on the edges and the top tab has a crease from being bent deuing shipping because it was just placed into a book with 5 other books I bought. Also, the pages are a tad thin for toddler hands and tabs are easy to bend. Overall, I would purchase more of from this series of books, despite the issues I've experienced.

Huge hit for all the kids!
I got this book to encourage speech expression with my two year old. I have a four month old I read with, and he seems to really enjoy looking at the pictures with me. I also babysit a preschooler, and she is obsessed with this book! It has proven very educational and entertaining. I didn't, however, expect my six year old son to love it as well! I have been quite surprised at the age range this book can entertain, and the length of time it holds their attention. I have the Colors and First Words books from this series as well, this is definitely the favorite for all of the children. I highly recommend it!

Speech tool for my toddler.
I have three children and we use these"my first" series to teach Phoenics and beginning word sounds- like baa, moo, woof... We originally used the Farm book a ton with my eldest and she is very advanced verbally. My second is delayed in speaking compared to my firstborn and she doesn't have a good attention span for storyline books. Perhaps she is too busy playing with sissy and the new baby. Regardless we wanted to get her back on track so we replaced the badly worn out copy we had of the My first farm and then added four more from the series. She is constantly bringing these books to us now. Within a day she has added at least 5 new words and it also has elevated her mood as she was getting so frustrated with not being understood. The only negative I can say about these My First books is that some of them have repetitive imagery across the series. But overall I'm pretty sure a toddler could care less about that fact. I think these would make great additions to any baby registry or shower gift. Totally recommend them!
