my place smells good for WEEKS at a time
it costs a bit , but it outweighs the cost really fast, I have a bunny who pees a lot, and he was stinking up my small studio apartment really fast, but not anymore. Ever since I started using the bedding ,my place smells good for WEEKS at a time. I was a bit turned off by the price, but once I got to use the product, I learned that the price is more than fair. It's efficientIt lasts a long time.My pet loves it.Editing review since whoever is handling the sales of this product doesn't know what it means to be ETHICAL.I ordered this , and it went into "backorder " for WEEKS AT A TIME.I contacted them and they kept telling me that product wasn't there, then, WITHOUT NOTICE, THEY CANCELLED MY ORDER and refilled their stocks with the product , only for a higher price.I have since just started using a local pet store, it's not as fun to travel, especially over a little item like this, but I just can't get over them- saying that they're out of stock till the stock comes in for a HIGHER PRICE- having my order cancelled without notice .I have no time for those who have no ethics.

be aware this is BASIC BLEND. Ok, but wouldn't recommend
Carefresh comes in two major forms: Natural and Basic Blend. Natural is the stuff that comes as the fluffier softer recycled cardboard or paper clumps. This product, Basic Blend, people seem to want to call it cedar chips. Its not. Its more like roughage; left over parts of the tree that were ground up.I bought this thinking it was the natural type. Oops. I wound up using it anyway. I have two guinea pigs and when I prepare their bedding, I put a layer of cheapo bedding that is absorbent but messy on the bottom. Over top I lay Carefresh Natural. I decided on using this Basic Blend on the bottom.the consistency of Basic Blend is fairly soft but fine. There aren't any big wood shavings. Nothing seems to be particularly hazardous in terms of big pointy sharp wood slivers. Its also harder for the animals to kick around so it tends to minimize the bedding that finds its way outside the cage.Guinea pigs are veritable poop and pee machines and the Basic Blend did a fantastic job of controlling odors and absorbing urine. However, the stuff is messy. Dry, the stuff has saw dust like particles that tend to get all over and up your nose as you pour it. When used, it tends to cement itself in place as it absorbs poo and pee in bigger stickier clumps than regular old cedar chips would make.My final verdict is Basic Blend is just ok, but its not worth it. I can get cedar chips that do the same job with less mess in a bag that lasts longer and for a cheaper price than this stuff. The other Carefree product, Natural, is great and worth the premium price though.

Great absorbent bedding, just ok as Odor control.
I have purchased many different kinds of bedding for my hamsters in the past and as a user of the Regular Carefresh (without the wood shavings) I was curious to see how this would work. I like Carefresh bedding for its absorbency but have found it to be not as effective at odor control, so the option of a bedding of the same quality but with better odor control was greatly appealing to me. I find that this bedding absorbs as well as the original version but don't find it to be much more effective with odor. I know hamster urine is particularly strong but I find I can smell it just about as well as with the original carefresh. However, this was not unexpected so I still like the product for what it is.

Keeps the odor under control
This bedding is very good for controlling odor and is easy for the guinea pigs to walk around on.We have two guinea pigs and this will easily last a week with only small daily scooping and replenishing. The guinea pigs enjoy pushing the bedding around and making a little bed for themselves. This is safe for guinea pigs (I checked several web sites to make sure there wasn't any harmful in the bedding), controls odor as well as any bedding I've tried, and is quite economical in the 60-L size. What more could anyone ask?

Odor control to the max! Works as intended
A lot of the reviews are by people who expected there to be more natural bedding (the soft type) mixed in, or had accidentally ordered this product instead of natural bedding. My review is based around my sole intent of reducing the urine odor on a regular basis made by my holland lop.I will agree that the shavings/'fluff' ratio is closer to 85/15 than the 70/30 in the product details, but I would say that I prefer it this way. Living in a small 1 bedroom in the city makes for potent cage smells after even an overnight's worth of my lop doing his business. The shavings seem to absorb urine significantly better than the natural bedding, and the odor control is top notch. I put the shavings on one side of his cage where he pees (too young to be litter trained just yet), and I purchase separate natural (fluffy) bedding for the other side where he lounges to have the best of both worlds. I've started putting a layer of the shavings under the fluff of his lounge areas, just to be safe.Be prepared for a bit messier of a situation with the shavings compared to the natural bedding; there are very small flakes that tend to fly everywhere. It does not come out in clumpy hand-fulls like you may be used to with natural bedding. I did not deduct any stars since this is how the product is intended and larger shavings would not work as well to cover and absorb.I will most likely use this product in his litter box once he is able to get trained. It works exactly as intended and I recommend it alone or for use alongside a separate natural bedding package to achieve the ratio you'd like.

It's okay, wasn't what I thought it was though.
I didn't know that carefresh made a bedding that included wood shavings. This combines wood shavings (don't know which kind) and a little carefresh mixed in. It worked ok, but I was afraid that the wood was pine, which isn't the best for guinea pigs. I used the bag quickly though, and it worked good. I have a C&C cage which used most of the 60 Liter bag.Overall, it might be a good choice for someone else, but I just don't know if the wood shavings are safe for my guinea pig.
