A thing of absolute beauty!
'Generations' Devastator is the first in the recent line of 'Combiner Wars' action figure sets from Hasbro, and this thing does not disappoint in the slightest! Included in the set are the six Constructicons - Scrapper, Hook, Long Haul, Mixmaster, Scavenger and Bonecrusher - and what will immediately hit you when you first open the box is just how big each individual transformers is, which creates an incredible sense of anticipation about how massive the combined Devastator is going to be. Individually the six Decepticons are very cool. Each stands at about 6" high (Long Haul is even more impressive due to his additional bulk) and all of them are very well articulated. They are almost picture-perfect representations of how they were portrayed in the Transformers Generation 1 animated series and comic book. Some of the figures are more complicated to transform that others - Scrapper for example only has about 8 points of Transformation, but the likes of Bonecrusher and Scavenger have about twice that amount. Vehicle modes are likewise very accurate representations of the comics and cartoon. Of course the main reason anyone would buy this set is for the combined mode, and Devastator doesnt let you down - he really is a sight to behold! Standing at a full 18" tall, and much like his component parts every bit the embodiment of his animated counterpart, Devastator is everything that his original toy wasn't. Massive, visually impressive, and designed in a way that provides him with an amazing level of articulation. The figure has points of articulation in the head, shoulders, elbows, hands, waist, hips and knees, providing a pretty much unlimited number of possible poses. Whilst I dont think anything would prevent me from giving this item the five star review it so richly deserves, Devastator is not without its problems: Firstly, perhaps its my age (I'm sure it was much easier when I was five!), but some of the Constructicons require a degree in engineering to figure out how to transform even with the instructions. Additionally whilst none of the figures are fragile as such, a lot of the joints and limbs need a certain degree of force when transforming them, and there are numerous parts on several of the figures that are prone to popping off in your hand. Fortunately all of the limbs are attached via ball joints and can be clipped right back on if they come off, so there is little chance of permanently breaking the figure, although you may have to be cautious about losing parts. As impressive and articulated as Devastator is, he can also be very difficult to pose without bits falling off, with Scrappers dozer-blade (which forms his right foot) being especially prone to popping out of place and sending the whole thing toppling over. Finally - and its a trifling complaint - none of the individual Constructicons come with personal weapons as was the case with the early toys, although Devastators hands can be transformed into rocket launchers for them to carry. In conclusion if any action figure is ever worth the money you pay for it then its this one (although I recommend consulting other online retailers/aution sites for the most competitive prices). Its definitely a big-boys toy rather than something for the kids, but if youre a late 30's long-time fan of the Transformers franchise like I am then you will find it impossible not to be impressed!

This Figure is AWESOME. Hasbro reached out with this design to do a lot of things and they hit a lot of buttons well. For diehard Transformers collectors, you may find some of the target market sacrifices annoying, so read through carefully, but for a play oriented display, the more than casual fan or something for a truck-minded kid, you'll love this. The Trucks: Each of the 6 Constructicons turn into big, bulky trucks. Compared to some older Generations Transformers, the plasitc feels lighter and more rubbery, but the vehicle's size and material are just begging to go out in the dirt and be played with, hosed off, and transformed. I do wish that Hook's crane could turn, or slide, or that Mixmaster's cement drum could turn, but the wheels all roll soundly. And I can forgive Long Haul's dump bed being shaped the way it is as needed for transformation, I suppose. The Robots Like the vehicles, these are BIG Bots. Some have said their size almost makes them feel like oversized Knock Offs, and I can understand that too a point. They are lighter than expected for their size, due in part because of the overall weight of Devvy. But the size of the Constructicons is also endearing, and if they were smaller we'd feel somehow shorted. its a good size for young and old hands alike. Transformations are very loyal to G1 for the most part, but still updated enough to feel new and not braindead simple, either. I wish they had more accurate guns, and not just Devy's accesories with gunbarrels. Takara is covering that in their own line, but at Takara prices+import. The Headsculpts are definately top notch though, right from the 86 cartoon movie. Devastator Two words. BIG. STABLE. You'd think for a guy standing on someone doing a hanstand, he'd have all the balance of a drunk pegglegged pirate in a hurricane. But on two feet, he's extremely balanced. The figure feels hefty, but just the right amount without being front or back heavy. And at 18" tall, he dwarfs most of his enemies. While smaller than the recent Metroplex, he's twice Leader Megatron's size and far larger than the other Combiners. The way Scrapper and Mixmaster unfold and latch into Long Haul to form the legs is ingenius and almost foolproof. This figure can take a lot of play without falling apart. Hook and LongHaul connect together in three places and then both connect to the arm bots Scavenger and Bonecrusher, Hook through the giant's shoulders and Long Haul by tabbing into the treads that form the ribcage/armpit area. And THEN you can tab on the shield, which connects to Long Haul with clips, a peg into Hook on the left side (but oddly, not the right?) and then with slotted tabs onto both treads, as much reinforcing the existing joints as it is holding itself on, while simoultaneously not making the figure hard to take a part. On mine, the wrist joint is tighter than the joint the han swivels into itself on, which has resulted in me popping the hand off the cuff several times. Nothing broken, it's a simple knob in a divot and designed to give, but it is annoying. I also find myself missing the 5mm standard pegholes. He has 5mm handles in his hands for the smaller bots to hold them as weapon pods, but no easy-to-use peg hole. He actually grips his blaster. It makes the hands look good, but in G1, Devy had a Scorpion guy who turned into a gun and this Devy can't weild a recent Scorion figure easily. Minor gripe though in the grand scheme of things. And that headsculpt? amazing. The bottom line is this: If you want a Museum Quality, Masterpiece Devastator, you might find this lacking. But this figure is fun to fiddle with, looks good with Generations toys, as well as the Robots in Disguise 2015 figures, has great posability, and definately stands out. You won't go wrong getting this for you, or your child, or both.

I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that if I had bought this from Hasbro directly when they re-released it I would have paid $150 USD plus shipping, but instead I bought it on Amazon for only $170 CAD (and with prime I get free shipping!). I was worried I was getting a knock off, or something broken or who knows what. Instead everything seems to be in order, nothing is broken and every bot transforms and I now have Devastator sitting on my shelf. I am really happy! I see some people commenting on the damaged box, and mine does have a weird fold down the left side along the corner. I also noticed when I was trying to see if the box art matched the images on Hasbropulse (while I was worried it might be a KO) that the image they use there seems to have the exact same fold. I am wondering if it is just a flaw in the box. Either way, this was shipped in a Amazon box, then in a Hasbro plain box and finally the actual product box. I don't know if anyone could have protected it much better. I think this is the first time I actually feel like I got the best deal when purchasing Transformers online - I am thrilled!

Purchased as a gift so I cant give a full review. However, Recipient loves it. It has been ttansformed and back to check out it works. All good.
