ABOUT THE TEACHER: Finis Jhung is a world-renowned ballet master who has been featured on CBS THS MORNING, written The Finis Jhung Ballet Technique: A Guide for Teachers & Students and produced more than 45 instructional videos. ABOUT THE VIDEO: This barre is designed to gently warm up, stretch, and strengthen the entire body. Students say that are ready to do any kind of choreography after they’ve done this barre, which includes exercises that students identify as a “Finis Fix,” especially his favorite barre stretch which begins has foot work, floor stretches, arabesque pencheé and concludes with a balance on relevé in attitude-arabesque. Finis first shows and explains each exercise in this video, and then Saige Miller demonstrates with Finis standing by to observe, instruct, and coach. Notice how Saige (who has been coached privately by Finis) is able to work without the barre, all the while maintaining correct posture, placement and turnout. This barre does what a good barre should do: it warms you up, reinforces the basics, and takes you forward. And most of all, it gives you a leg to stand on. EXERCISES: 1. Stretches; 2. Pliés with balances & stretches; 3. Battement tendu à la seconde, 1st position; 4. Battement tendu devant & derrière with stretches, 1st position; 5. Quick battement tendu à la seconde, devant & derrière; 6. Slow battement tendu with stretches & balance; 7. Medium battement tendu en croix with demi plié, retiré, 5th position; 8. I would have enjoyed a slower build up of combinations
Very helpful for basic steps, which is what I needed, however it became a bit too complicated about two-thirds through. I would have enjoyed a slower build up of combinations.

Finis Jhung is very good at explaining what he wants from his student. It a good substiute when can get to a class. I have a friend that studied with Finis Jhung for years. She said she enjoyed his combinations moving across the floor his classes were great. I highly recommend that dancer studing ballet get this CD.
