GL.iNet GL-MT2500A Brume 2 Wired VPN Security Gateway 2.5G WAN

This thing has Very low power usage, and Excellent performance. It is a very advanced router, without WiFi. It uses 1-2 watts using it as a router. It's very easy to configure with many advanced features. The RAM and Flash memory are unusually large, so you can use it for a network that has a massive number of devices with all kinds of special rules for routing if you like, and it's solid. I looked for years for this kind of device. Finally I found it.

Just set up my Brume 2 as a VPN server so I can securely connect back to my home network from anywhere. It required configuring WireGuard server on the admin panel and setting up port forwarding on my router since the Brume 2 sits behind it, but the process was pretty smooth thanks to a helpful online tutorial. The device itself is great — super small form factor and the aluminum case gives it a really clean, modern look on my desk. I did have an issue with updating to the latest firmware, but support was quick and very helpful in getting it sorted out. Overall, really impressed. Compact, capable, and a solid solution for running a home VPN.

The GL Inet GL-MT2500 has been great! I needed a router with a native wireguard server feature. This router is so easy, both in setup and the wireguard service! After spending hours on an ASUS RT-AX1800S , lacking any decent troubleshooting indicators, I sent it back for a refund. Pros - : very helpful web-based admin panel(this is great) : detailed status info for troubleshooting : took only 20 mins to get internet up : great status and detail on the admin page : Wireguard was incredibly easy to set up : free ddns is reserved configured with a click keep in mind: does not provide WIFI con: : no mounting holes or bracket

Poor instructions Not easy to troubleshoot Light was supposed to be blue, it was white all the time and there were no clues what to do. I reset to factory setting to no avail Had to return

Good device. Simple set up. Have this and a vpn running on an Asus router. Had my setup in FL and was logging in from the Arabian Gulf. I was expecting the servers running on the Brume to be faster than the Asus but this wasn't the case. Perhaps user error but both OpenVPN and WireGuard on the Brume were Significantly slower than the OpenVPN server on the Asus. The Brume server therefore ended up being my backup. Was getting 70mbps peak on Asus and hardly 30 on the Brume. Bandwidth at "home" was 500 down 100 up. Distance definitely played a role but would have expected the same affect on the Asus router as well. Shrug. Anyway - its worth a purchase regardless. I was using the Beryl AX as the client.

Nice router to make up for some of the deficiencies for my Wi-Fi system. There are several services that are baked in which enhances my network. It allows granular control of the network. I wouldn’t call it plug-in play if you need some more control over your network. I’m not one who understands networking. If it wasn’t for Gemini, I probably would not be able to figure it out. But for my purposes, it does what I need it to do.

This is a no brainer solution for remote tunneling back to your home network. I am not an IT pro so set up was a bit tricky. The Brume2 is the easy part. It's the particular, less documented ISP modem firewall settings you need to be familiar with to make it work. In my situation I have ATT Fiber with a Netgear Mesh router. All of my hair pulling was caused by the ATT Fiber modem. But rest assured the Brume gateway works great once you dial in the modem settings. Basically the ATT modem does not have port forwarding. You have to use IP Passthrough. Set the IP Passthrough to the mac address of your main router. You also have to delete all the default packet filtering rules set by the modem. I have the Brume gateway behind my Netgear router. The Netgear assigns a NAT IP address to the Brume. If your gateway is behind your router you will set port forwarding to the IP of the gateway. Make a note of the Brume default port number and forward to the same port number. Should work like a charm.

Great small network router for home, easy setup for VPN server and AdGuard services. It is an openwrt based router so it has a lot of flexibility for installing containers. 👍

L'article est bien mais pour une utilisation en VPN pour accéder aux fichiers d'un NAS depuis un ordinateur Windows via SMB du NAS j' ai du passé plus de 4 h de débogage avec chatgpt avant de trouver la commande qu'il fallait ajouter à la configuration pour que cela fonctionne parfaitement. J'aurais peut-être dû mettre a jour avant d'installer. Maintenant cela fonctionne vraiment très bien et je suis parfaitement satisfait. Accès réseau imprimante NAS scanner etc ... Depuis portable via téléphone 5G vitesse impeccable et sécurisé.

Got a GL.iNet Slate plus for travelling to connect to home for streaming home TV that is otherwise geoblocked when overseas. Previous Netgear security appliance at home stopped working, but only supported openVPN and not WireGuard. Netgear has dropped this category of device. Slate plus worked fine when overseas. A few teething problems in some hotels but working well when sorted. Answers are in the tech support forums. GL.iNet tech support is pretty responsive and monitoring the community support forums. I was impressed. Brume 2 was the simplest way to restore my home VPN. Easier to use than Netgear. There are cheaper more advanced products in this category, but they are not simple at all. Plus those so inclined can access all of openWRT via Luci interface if they need/want complexity. Free dynamic DNS. On in a click. WireGuard VPN server. On in a few clicks. WireGuard client on phone. Download. Scan QR code. Connect. Access to home network. On in a click. Newest firmware stopped talking to my Orbi wireless access point - but Orbi firmware update fixed that. Only thing missing is wall mounting facility. I am using a little piece of angle aluminium and outdoor velcro.
