DEADPOOL & CABLE ULTIMATE COLLECTION BOOK 1 (Deadpool & Cable Ultimate Collection, 1)

Excellent read
I cannot recommend this collection enough. Cable & Deadpool was a fantastic run and in this book we get issues 1-18. Fabian Nicieza offers new and thought provoking stories nicely mixed with the comedy and action we come to expect from a Deadpool comic.Deadpool's riotous quips and pop culture references are worth the price alone. Whilst you may not understand some of Deadpool's more obscure references you will laugh out loud on more than one occasion. Nicieza writes a Wade Wilson that is hilarious yet smart, deadly and a competent mercenary. Wade is a jerk yet the person he has become is somewhat justifiable when you learn what he has been through. Diagnosed with fatal cancer he joined the notorious Weapon X program desperately seeking a cure. It was there that he was inhumanely experimented on and left physically and mentally fractured.Nicieza does a great job with character development here particularly the friendship between the two main players. Both Cable and Deadpool grow and face many questions. I have never really been interested in Cable. Extremely powerful characters are rarely identifiable with readers yet Nicieza does well to make him interesting and accessible which highlights his strength as a writer. He is presented as a man who is desperate to help the world avoid a tragic future having himself seen the worst. He is written as a strategic leader but is also given a heart and even some wit to counter his serious nature. The art is of an excellent quality. Patrick Zircher takes over from issue 3 and it really strengthens the book. I particularly enjoyed the double page spreads of Wade in all his merc glory. There are a few notable guest appearances from some Marvel heavyweights and some less familiar characters including the X-men, Silver Surfer, the Cat, Mr Sinister, Domino, and Fixer to name a few. We also get some appearances from characters that fans of Deadpool will specifically appreciate like Weasel, Siryn, and Agent X.Also collected here are the letter pages which are replied to by the Merc with a mouth himself. The recap pages are also present starting from issue 11 which is a definite plus as most are full of comedic value and often break the fourth wall. Unfortunately the interview with Deadpool and Irene and the Happy Days theme rewrite, the recaps from issues 8 and 9 respectively, are notable absences.Great collection, highly recommended. I will be buying the next two collections when released.

Great update to a classic duo
Great update to a classic duo.... DP & Cable always are a good team up, but this storyline is a twist on the usual storylines. The interviewesque style of back story, kept things explained in a different yet entertaining way through Cable's eyes. Great art, but that was expected from this group. Highly recommend if you enjoy these two.

Deadpool And Cable: Best Team Up Ever.
Being a Deadpool fan, he is what drew me to this series, as I wasn't sure on whether I would like Cable or not. After reading this book, I can now say that I like Cable, and he and Deadpool make a really great team. Which is surprising, since Deadpool and Cable are total opposites of each other. But maybe that's why they work well together in the first place. Anyway, this book was very enjoyable, and if you are a fan of Deadpool and/or Cable, you should give this book a try.

Solid start to the series
This collects the first 18 issues of the Deadpool and Cable series from the mid-2000s. Don't get me wrong, the series provides plenty of the trademark humor of Deadpool and is overall well-written; the series is, however, very much in the early days and attempting to find its legs creatively. Sometimes the stories are a little overlong; little is done in these early issues with the concept of Providence, an island think tank/utopia comprised of the pieces of Cable's old space station. The buddy cop formula of Cable and Deadpool works well, even when it shouldn't, pairing the time-traveling mutant messiah and the wisecracking, fourth-wall-breaking Merc with a Mouth, but these early stories are like the earlier seasons of, say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Star Trek: The Next Generation, with some solid moments here and there, but the promise of greatness only further down the road. So why 4 stars? Because the recap pages and letters pages from the original issues, a work of art unto themselves, are included in this collection. Because there's a storyline called Enema of the State. Because these stories can be (fairly) easily digested without an encyclopedic knowledge of X-men lore.

As usual Fabian Nicieza brings forth his best form when writing Deadpool
As usual Fabian Nicieza brings forth his best form when writing Deadpool. Not only do we get to see the often ignored guilt that Deadpool carries with him every day (thus making this fictional character seem more human than some people you probably know) but we also are given a character that tries to redeem himself, but by being a flawed man, not quite achieved what he hopes for. Then of course we have Cable, the man and machine that has taken on a (rightful?) messiah complex and is attempting to create a better humanity, even if he might be wrong, he either ignores it or refuses to admit it.The pairing, especially in this book, is perfection. With the man trying to do good, and the man embodying good, you have a dynamic that will keep you hooked until the very last page. The only problem with this book is that it is not bigger.

May be the most favorite of all marvel series I have ever read
May be the most favorite of all marvel series I have ever read. Certainly there is no other series that is better, and very few that come close. The only negatives I have to say about the series is the nearly complete disappearance of cable towards the end of vol 3 and the need of a few other collections to fill in some of the gaps not included in this collection of 3 volumes.Other than those negatives, I cannot speak enough positive words to adequately describe this series. It is a must read for any marvel fan, and I cannot recommend it enough, some of my most favorite scenes of all time are included in this book, cable as a medieval swordsman fighting a early apocalypse (very 80s metal by the way), a rapidly aging from a baby to adult cable sitting in a bar telling stories with deadpool, and many more.

they could of picked better villains, this is an excellent TBP
Art: 5/5Stories: 4/5Though, at times, absurd because, quite frankly, they could of picked better villains, this is an excellent TBP. You'll get stories 1-18 as Deadpool and Cable fight blue people and all sorts of other s#!+! The art is fantastic and yaddi-yadda!

absolutely awesome!!
I searched long for a comic series that would make me laugh and be excited what happens next at the same time! With this book I found it and I totally loved it! Also the author manages to show Deadpool and Cable in an equal way and does not focus on one character! The artwork is great and the story arcs are simply amazing!
